Replacment part: Timing belt tension nut

(This is FlyingSheep's picture from another thread.)

This nut is a common problem apparently.

Has anyone replaced it with something else?

Honda part is: 90216-POA-000 which replaced 90216-PTO-000. Anybody know the difference between the two?

I'm thinking of getting a 10mm coupling nut, 25mm tall, high grade. The idea is that'll act like the tension bolt on the alternator - plenty to grip and more room to get a socket on there. There is a little gasket that is designed to go around the Honda part, but I'll just run a bead of silicone RTV to keep the oil out (sealing to cover, which will of course need to be re-done if I undo it later) and call it a day. Maybe add another washer, as the original is flanged at base.

Does anybody know the bolt pitch? (edit: 1.25)

Any reason why this is a bad idea?

Flanged heads, because the base spins with the bolt, have less tension applied for a given torque value.

Meaning if I replaced the nut with one without a flange and used a washer instead, torquing it down to 33 pounds would actually mean I'm making it too tight! I suppose sticking to the torque values in the manual would be nice.

Sort of obvious, but didn't think of that. Hmm.

    I wish this was taller.

    Edit:
Autoparts warehouse carries a nicer style one, they call it the "Timing Cover Mount Nut", but it looks right. 6 bucks.

      For future searchers:

      90216-POA-000 which replaced 90216-PTO-000.

I got my nut from the Honda dealership.

The new style is the same height but has more grippable area on the nut, it's not the acorn nut. 14mm head, same thing.

I don't think it came with the grommet, I reused the old one.
