I have seen that 4th gen accord owners put Carbon Fiber hoods on their car? Can these get painted? Because I always see pictures of the car with these hoods and you can tell they have a different color hood (why don't they paint them?) Also what is the point of the hood mod? Just to say "I got a carbon fiber hood" or is because of the weight difference? How much lighter is it? If you put the carbon fiber hood on for the weight difference you must think it gives you more acceleration, so how much acceleration do you gain?

my carbon fiber hood weighs about 3-5 pounds. yes it reduces weight and it does increase exceleration. at least it did for me.depending on what brand you got is how much it weighs. I have lifted a VIS hood and it is heavier than my hood. i like the color black for my hood. it just wouldn't be right to paint it but yes they can paint the hood.

For the most part, I'd say about 85% of us uses carbon fiber products for aesthetic reasons, not purely for race applications (weight reduction)...
I love my C/F hood (VIS) for it breaks the "monotony" of the paintjob of my ride (left it unpainted, but, I put 2 coats of clear to give the hood that extra gloss and protection)...
Instead of painting the hood (would be a waste not showing off the C/F weaves on the hood), why not put a matching pearl color of your ride (mixed with clearcoat) and spray the hood... Best of both worlds- showing off your hood while it has a tinge of color that matches your ride....
BTW- some companies sell C/F hoods with different color weaves in it (to match/contrast the color of your vehicle)...

What other forum would my thread meet a better description/category? Its under "parts and performance" which a hood is, its under "appearance" which works, and it is under "aero parts" which applies too. Just wonderin, I would put it under a different category but I couldn't find a better one, this forum discusses other car body parts... I did get 3 replies, so it looks pretty relavent to me.

lol.
my c/f hood was just as much as buying a stock replacement hood, but w/o the cool factor.
it is lighter than stock. i don't race, but as fizzbob stated, i doubt it makes a significant difference.
i like the unpainted look to see the c/f... don't think i'll ever paint it, just get additional clearcoat put on in the future.

Hmmm...
Never heard of that before... I'd call the company that sell the hoods to find out about clearance issues...

I see what you mean... I just got back from some shops that sells C/F hoods over here and even they can't give me a straight answer...
I took a look at the Invader hood (not for the Accord, though) in one of the shops and yeah- the "vent" part of the hood (looking underneath the hood) is lower than the rest of the hood... I'd say you're right about it hitting the engine, one way or another...
Thought I'd check it out for ya... :D

if a shop has the hood, would they let you take your hood off and just lay the invader or oem style hoods down just to see if one of them fit?

hey fizzy, since you were thinking of c/f hood and maybe cutting it some vents you could always go with the EVOIV or EVOVI style or the 98-01 impreza hood vents ( ignore the scoop part of it )...just an idea...
