hello,

i have a 90 ex and want to ask the brake pros, about what it is that is causing the unsmooth braking.

my car had the master cylinder fixed b4, because the pedal was sinking in. the rotars were also resurfaced, all this was done a few years back

anyhow, i notice that during braking, it seems unsmooth, as if the brakes are not gripping it enough or what not. it just seems unsmooth, like i can feel the force of stopping, yet it is not smooth. i feel like its pulling me and throwing me GENTLY in my seat as if rotars feel warped or what not. they are 15 years old anyhow..

ive flushed completely brake system now its stp dot 3. i hope that cuz of the long duration that the new fluids won't ruin the components and 'shock system'.

any ideas as to where i can get BREMBO OE rotars?

thanks.

I know what you mean when you push in on the brakes and its kind of a hard stop and you can feel almost a pulling or slight grinding in the brakes. Here is what I did:

I purchased brembo blanks for like 25 a rotor. Also purchased axxis pads (a step up from oem) and also ran stainless steel brake lines and notice the pedal seems more "sure" and obviously braking power/stopping distance is a step over oem.

My suggestion is either upgrade to blanks and also upgrade your pads. DO NOT purchase the vato zone special IMO you can get better quality for about the same money (brembo blanks for example). Check out www.importrp.com for they have very reasonable prices :tu: .

thanks..

especially at high speed at times, my wheel shakes like heck, but anyhow thanks for understanding. but i'm talking bout regular city road driving, even minor traffic occurances where at times, the brakes just aren't smooth.

what bought the rear?

this car has only 79k and im sure it can last a bit longer. i dont' want to do major mods, but just enought that will help the ride be more smooth and safer.

importrp is good, i've ordered from them before. :)

thanks :)

For the rear I just replaced my shoes and relined the drum and put in SS lines in the rear too. Braking is a lot smoother and more responsive. Your front rotors will do most of the braking and will take most of the punishment mainly do to when you slow down the acceleration is transferred to the front of the car hence you go forward too ;) .

You can go oem but why not upgrade a little for the same price?

ya i was thinking brembo, and axis ... steel lines bout 100, hmm...gotta decide

but the labor is another story, and how bout calipers and what not?.. that should be good enough to last for a great while...

thanks..

IMO cb7 calipers are just fine...there is another route if you decide which I have heard yields great results and that is doing the legend caliper upgrade. Search for more information on that to determine if you're wanting to get into that.

Are you on h-t? If you are pm me I am vrdrvr on h-t. I know a guy with kick ass prices on brake stuff (other than importrp) :D .

If you're still getting vibration from braking...maybe your rotors got warped or are warped. Just because you had them resurfaced a while back, don't mean they could not have warped. Maybe you did excessive hard braking at high speeds on a hot day or something. Anyways, I put in brand new rotors, reman calipers and new pads on the front of our 91 SE Accord...and it had vibration after all this. After we purchased new tires up front, etc...we come to find out the brand new rotors from Advance Auto or Autozone..wherever I got them from...one was warped! It came to me that way...f**kers...but still...I'd make sure they are good. Upgrading ur brakes simply replaces the rotors, which obviously takes away the prob...but if you don't want to spend a wad...first check for excessive runout on ur rotors....if that's the case..then just go to Autoparts store and get OEM-like rotors...it's the cheaper route. If your pads are in good shape..use them...if not get new ones.

you can isolate the problem between front and rear brakes by driving down a side street and braking with just the parking brake handle( hold the release button in while doing this so the parking brake does not lock ) if the front brakes are the problem you can have the resurfaced with an "on car" style brake laythe, because the wheel bearings can cause excessive run out also. if you have the rotors replaced also have the wheelbearings replaced because the the rotors are the "press on style" the new rotors should also be resurfaced with an on car brake laythe after they are installed. if the rear brakes are the cause the drums can be resurfaced on an off car brake laythe. over adjustment of the rear shoes can cause the drums to overheat and cause excessive runout

I've been wanting to get new brake pads, but I don't know which kind to get. On that link for irp I was looking at the PBR/Axxis ultimates but I don't know if I need them for Nissin or Akebono calipers. Any help on finding out which ones? I got a 93 ex coupe. Also any other suggestions for brake pads?

take off your wheel and look at the caliper..It should say on there...as for the brake pads i would also consider ebc green stuff and aem pads...Ive heard very good things about both pads.

I was hoping for an easier way, I'm considering Hawk HPS pads.

I pulled the wheels off today and I was looking for some sort of logo to know what kind of a caliper it was. I can't seen to find any, only some numbers on the caliper. What should I look for?

blk ex coupe.
do a search under my name. i asked the exact thing back then..

what do u guys mean for wheel bearing and resurfacing.?? i am 90% sure its the front, i can feel it. i just wanna know if im gonna change to competely new rotars, what else should i get? i am thinkign just brembo OE, and axis pads. however i d k what else i should replace. i mean my rotars are 15 years old since the resurface a while back, it just feels warped like its not smooth or something..

like it lurks and bobs u front-back in ur seat SLIGHTLY and then stops..

i am thinking bout getting some slotted rotars...for my cb7.. I MAY do some autocross in the future.. but mostly trying to find a 3rd gen for that..
