Aight, I'm gonna have to replace my stock valve springs with new stock for this Delta camshaft 272 regrind anways. So i figure why not just go aftermarket, prolly cost the same or is most likely cheaper.
So for 11:1 compression ratio F22A1 setup with a Delta 272 profile regrind on the camshaft with stock valves....what valve springs you all recommend?
Be specific & it'd be appreciated if you KNOW the valve springs are compatible or should be with the camshaft regrind.
cam specs:
272/272 duration .425/.425 lift

PM 92LX (Nathan) and ask him. He has a machine shop that rebuilds, port and polishes, basically anything you need done as far as head work his machine shop can do it real well.
I would go with what he says.

I'll second what fizzbob said...
Since the Delta grinds are ok with stock springs any valvetrain upgrade will just be icing on the cake...
As far as F22 specific springs you are kind of limited...
Ferrea, JG and I can't remember the name of the other company... I think it's KMS... are the only ones making F22 specific springs that i can remember right now...
I'm going to run OEM H22 outer springs w/ portflow inners & stock H22 retainers... If I ever get around to ordering the Portflows...since I'll only be upping the redline to 7500. and if the damn machine shop ever gets my F22 head done...
Anyways... there has been some speculation that B series springs WILL work on an F head... no verifiable proof yet... but B series springs are proven to work on H heads so it's only a matter of time before people start realizing that their options aren't so limited...Skunk2, Jun, Toda...
Although honestly I'd stay the hell away from Ti retainers... they're not really neccessary... Some forged Alcoa or aluminum retainers or even good condition OEM should work...
But for the most promising, cost effective set of springs I'd look into EF-1 Speed Stable springs... Rocket is really committing to research & testing for F stuff just based on a few people's requests... He sees the potential.
So if you have money to burn... go with Ferrea/Crower(BLAH!)/JG...
but if you want quality and don't want to pay extra for the brand name I'd go with Portflow or EF-1...

I've never heard of outer & inner springs on a valvetrain setup. Could you elaborate on that.
Also, yea I'm keeping stock retainers & valves, just upgrading the springs to I have no probs throughout entire RPM range.
Could you give me some contact infor for EF-1 and Portflow? Thanks.

How much did the delta regrind cam cost you? how long did it take to ship to you? did you have to send in your core exchange?? Does any one make new camshalf for our F22A engine??
And how that cam sound:) so your redline is higher but did you lost low end TQ?? I'm planning to get a camshalf myself

thanks for the info Scott. I don't need retainers, I plan on going w/stock and for the valves as well. Just need valve springs that are better than stock cuz of the 272 profile Delta regrind which will rev higher. I want reliability so I want it to work fine with no faults near or just past redline.
Will Web Cam's springs fit on stock Honda retainers?

I'm pretty sure that Web only carries Ferrea for Honda apps... unless something changed since I called them a few months ago...(which is highly possible)
and WEB will probably tell you that Ferrea springs "only work with Ferrea retainers & Ferrea seat locators..." so tack on another $200 onto the Web bill if you believe them...
Other places like crower will tell you the same thing...If you are worried about it then I would think about getting at least forged aluminum retainers if the spring manuf. doesn't reccomend stock retainers...besides they're usually only half the price (or so) of Ti retainers and forged aluminum can most likely easily handle any kind of rpm's you could push with an OEM crank...
In theory stock retainers might not have the correct tolerances and possibly be a little loose fitting or have slight clearance issues when used with aftermarket springs...
So then you get into the problem of having to buy a pricey full spring/retainer set that can rev to 10-11k when you really only need 8-8.5k stable at the highest possible limits of an F22 STREET motor... paying TOP dollar and letting 3k rpm go to waste...blah.
That's why I finally landed on the H22 outer/portflow inner setup...I can live with a 9k rpm stable setup...

Web does not offer "Ferrea" springs and retainers. They are their own product. Actually for the F22, a company called "kibblewhite" is making the springs for Web currently. On the H series engine, the Web springs do require their own retainers and are sold with the set of springs. So it is possible that a retainer set is included with the new springs. Call them to be sure... I called them about this set-up last week and they said it has become very popular sice Bisi Eizeroah developed his all motor F22 to astronomical proportions using the Web and Kibblewhite parts.

My mistake...
Thanks for setting the record straight Scott...
