Underbody lighting

My sister wants underbody lights insalled on her car and she says her friend will do it for free. My question is should you wire the kit to a fuse or directly to the battery.

Sorry about my last post, it was a bit off topic. I'm surprised that it doesn't have instructions... I don't like seat of the pants electrical work, no matter how simple.
I would definitely wire through a fuse, though. Probably something like:
power ---> fuse ---> switch ---> something unspeakable under the car
If, for whatever reason, there's some kind of surge in the line it's good to know that you're not going to get anything nasty happening. Plus, in the event of an electrical mishap, you may end up saving yourself more money and headache.

Thats what I thought but this guy was trying to tell me how he did his car and it works great. Just a few mins ago I asked him to turn his lights on and he said he couldnt. I asked him why and he said one of the wires fried but he hasnt figured out which one yet. I think the whole thing is pointless though

dont know if this will help, but if the undercar kit has 4 tubes (like most do) they're probably all wired to a control box. If so run a power wire from the batt. to an in-line fuse to the control box. If the kit is cheap and doesnt have a control box, just four tubes here are some options:
1. - power from batt to in-line fuse to dist. block (like used for amps) from there go to separate neons
2. - you'll want control though , so you can wire your own switch, (cheap switch from wal-mart is like 2 bux and has three tabs on it, one for Power, one for ground, one for accessory) power from batt to in-line to power tab on switch. Run ground. Then run Accessory wire from switch to dist. block, and from there go to all the neons.
hope this helps, always use an in line fuse before anything reaches the battery, you WILL be grateful for it. also, never run a main power wire from a fuse (or any other source except batt.) Car electrical systems are wired thin as it is, better off just runnin your own power from the batt.

ALWAYS have your fuse less then 12" from the battery
this will prevent a short between the fuse and batt and casuing a fire!!!


wish i had pics of my frinds escort we did his syestem and i told him to get a fuse and then wqe will finish the install

he didnt listen and just hooked it up to the batt

well the positive came lose from the amp and touched the ground and needless to say he now has a burnline all the way through his car!!!!!!!

if the wire was there it burnt whatever was next to it!!!!

good point man, i guess i never thought about it since i usually mount the fuse holder, and its usually hard to find a place to mount it closer than 12 inches from the battery. sucks to be your friend (.... weird grammar, you know what i mean) oh well, thats what he gets....

hahaha, I had a similar experience with a fuse.. i put it off as well. darn procrastinators..
anyways.. luckily it wasnt anywhere you could see the wire but was a little scary afterwards.. and to think i riskt it for some 4 corner strobes, what 1 guy will do when hes broke
