i cant really decide if your in it for performance or just cause.....
i was reading on your site that you wanted to get lsd? why didnt you just pay extra to have the lsd tranny? prob cheaper that way then getting an aftermarket lsd...but its prob to late now...
did you do the swap your self or pay a shop?
pretty nice sleeper overall except for the license plate....
and i cant wait to see what you do next, sounds like your gona kit it out or something...:laughy:
dont mean to sound rude, just asking questions...
deevergote.
12-01-2003, 09:01 PM
 Nah, I'm gonna keep it as close to stock as possible. I wasn't thrilled with the huge fart-pipe that I had to get, but I needed the airflow. That's why I went with the dual tip, since it's closer to the body. No kit, no tint, no chrome 19s, no ghetto-boomer subs, no vinyl decals or stickers... A carbon fiber hood is about it, and that's only because my current hood is shot. It'll blend right in with the color of the car anyway.
I'll be dropping it a little, about 1.2" (Eibach Pro-Kit), and I plan on getting some Koni yellows. As for wheels, I plan on getting some JDM ITR rims (96, I think, are the proper botlt pattern...) and some Falken Ziex tires. I'm considering painting the rims when I get em, but I'm not sure... I probably won't. I'm just not a huge fan of white!
As for the license plate, I photochopped that... I don't want my plates floating around the internet, and it looks better that way than if I put a big black box over it. (and I was bored...)
I paid a shop for the swap (and got hosed... the estimate was $500-$1000 for labor... came to $1750... but I haven't had any problems, so at least I got what I paid for!) I don't trust myself enough yet to do something like that... and I would have to use my friend's dad's equipment... I hate borrowing, and since i wouldn't know how long it would take me, I wouldn't want to keep a 6'7" man from his Chevelle too long! As it is, it took the shop 2 weeks to figure it out. The guys that did it came from a Honda dealership, and said they did stuff like that before. Apparently they didn't quite know what they were doing. I had to do a ton of research, and get a little help from Wille (of TwistedImports.com and I think Accordclub.com). I had to tell them how to wire the thing, as well as tell them how to hook up the fuel system...
I tried to get the LSD tranny, but Steve from HMO said he was out of em, and probably wouldn't have em in for another 3 months. I couldn't wait that long, since the F22 tranny was starting to go... and the money was already borrowed. I'm also glad that I didn't wait, because I started shopping for a house 3 months later. I never would've gotten the swap if I knew I was buying a house! I was told that an aftermarket LSD would be better than the stock one anyway. I'll just do that when I get a new clutch and flywheel... waaaay down the road (hopefully!)
Thanks for the feedback, and for checking out the site! No questions are rude if they make sense... And I agree, the plate is a bit cheesy! :D

Dude alright! i was kinda scared by some of the coments you made in your first post..."It's not much to look at (yet), but there it is!" kinda made me think you were gona kit it out!
also i thought ITR rims were 5 lug?
and also dont get ziEXS! the suck ass in the rain! omg,
get paradas for something! even falkedn azanies!
i have ziexs and they suck! suck! not worth 120-40 dollars, what i paid for them...
wow! that was alot of money for the labor...wow
nice job!
Juan
deevergote.
12-01-2003, 10:21 PM
Really? The Ziexs suck? I was looking on some tire site (1010, or tires.com, or one of those) and comparing reviews. I was originally gonna get some Yokohama Avid T4s, but the Ziexs had better ratings. I was planning on getting the all season ones, rather than the performance ones, since I get some crazy weather in Jersey. Plus, they supposedly last longer, and I drive a hell of a lot!
The 96 ITR rims are 4x114.3. The later ones are 5, and the earlier ones are 4x100. I'm not sure if any other years had the size I need, but I know for sure that the 96s do. I think 93accordEX had em at one time...
As for looks, I just meant that it's all banged up and rusted in some spots... the usual spot over the wheel well, and my hood has a huge blemish where the paint cracked (a guy in my band decided it would be cool to jump on my hood, denting the hell out of it and cracking the paint...)
I plan on repainting it the same color, and just keeping it nice. Kits and fancy paint don't do anything for me, and it's just too damn expenisve for something I can't feel!
and yeah, I got raped on the installation...
phatdoughnut

please! i live in washington! its snowing right now and im still running them...lol prob shouldnt.... the reason they last so long is cause they are hard as hell!

hey man nice car
deevergote.
12-02-2003, 12:04 PM
Yeah, that's kinda what I'm going for. That's why I really don't care how bad it looks at the moment. I know it'll never be insanely fast, but I DO hope to get it running low 12s eventually. I don't care to go any faster than that (since I would need a cage...) It's fun having an ugly car that's fast. You expect speed from a car with lots of visual mods (and often don't get it, since the owner spent all his money on looks) but from something that looks like junk... :D I still lose most stoplight races though. Mainly because I don't know the other guy wants to race, or because I just don't care to risk my life or license doing it.
I guess it's time to start looking for some different tires... I want some decent all-season, semi-performance tires that will last me at least 30-40k... Am I asking for too much? (oh yeah, under $75 each as well :P)

I'm tired as hell now, and I want to document the research I've done tonight... Plus, I want some feedback on my plans! :D
I have very limited cash at the moment. I'm at the point where I figured out exactly what I spend to live, pad it a little for emergencies, and then set aside the rest for spending... of course on the car! Here are the things I've found:
$250 roughly for a Phantom Grip LSD thingy. I know it's not a real LSD, but from what I've read it will suit my purposes till I can afford something better.
$490 shipped for an Exedy organic clutch and an 11.9 lb XACT flywheel. I want the heavier flywheel so I don't fall out of the powerband, especially when I add a turbo. www.clutchcityonline.com
$659-$699 for Koni Sport (yellow) shocks and springs. I'm still trying to decide which ones. www.shox.com has 3 packages with the Konis. B&G lowers 1.6 in, and is the cheapest at $659. Eibach Pro-Kit lowers 1.2 in, and is $679. H&R lowers 1.75 in. front and 1.5 in. rear, and is $699.... I'm not sure how low I wanna go! The Eibach deal was what I was leaning towards for the longest time.
Finally, some body work and a fair paint job (same color) at Maaco for $620. They're running a special, so I can get their Presidential job (one up from the cheapie Ambassador) for $250... and the rest is labor, including a terrible cancer spot on my rear quarter panel, and stripping my roof and rear decklid.
I know I have some questionable plans here, and I think I have my reasons for them. I'd appreciate any feedback on anything! Preferrably if you know what you're talking about (I get a lot of "I heard Phantom Grip sucks...") Any better prices than I'm looking at would be cool too. I think I shopped pretty smart, but I could've missed something!

you should go for the h&r springs it will look alot better its not to much but not to little

I think the color is called Phantom Grey.. my buddy has the same color and just dropped the H22 in his car yesterday.. that's strange but how much was your engine?
I love sleepers!
deevergote.
01-15-2004, 02:43 PM
Phantom Grey... sweet! I always wondered what the name was... That's pretty cool! I want to find the names and codes for all the paint colors used for CB7s... I saw a partial list around here somewhere.
Anyway,
The complete swap (engine, tranny, ECU, and other parts) was $2400 shipped to my shop from www.hmotorsonline.com. I didn't get the paperwork I was promised, so I was kinda pissed about that. Other than that, it was an incredible deal. The engine was in perfect shape.
It's just a shame I had to put a 2.5" exhaust system on it, with a loud 'ol fart pipe... The sound is nice and deep, but it takes away from the sleeper effect!

deevergote.
02-20-2004, 03:41 PM
Sweet! My car is shiny!
I just called them about a couple imperfections... Not really so friendly now that they already have my money :( Anyway, overall they did an incredible job. It's the Maaco in Turnersville NJ, same place 92accordDX had his done 2 years ago. It was the Presidential job, at half price :D Plus a whole lot of body work... They fixed a HUGE cancer spot in my passener rear quarter panel, and it's nearly perfect. There doesn't seem to be any overspray at all. There was one scratch on the car that looked like someone walked by while it was tacky and brushed it with a zipper... Not bad, and it'll probably wax out. There are two other spots that look like they might lead to peeling, so I'm going back on Tuesday afternoon to have them take a look (and raise hell if need be!)
cp[mike]
02-20-2004, 03:59 PM
WOW your car is transformed!! looks very very good, i cant wait to see it tomorrow in person! i think those pics just about persuaded me to take a trip to maaco- what was the total price u paid for the whole job?
really, congradulations mike... your car looks straight, clean, shiny, and very sexy.
deevergote.
02-20-2004, 04:08 PM
Ahthangagyu!
I paid $621 for the whole deal, plus the cost of a replacement hood ($43 from Certifit). The paintjob was $250, and the rest was body repair and tax. They fixed the cancer spot (5 hours) stripped the roof (2 hours... brought down from 3...) and partially stripped the trunk lid (1 hour). So, 8 hours of work at $32 an hour or so, and the $250 paint job. (I'm short $100 there somewhere, but they took my estimate )
I'm gonna get up early as hell tomorrow morning and wash everything else... and rinse the dust off the paintjob. Hopefully 93twodoorLX will help me :p

Me2.....I think the pro kit with some konis will go nicely along with some wheels. Very clean I would hit up that engine bay with some simple green and some elbow grease to show off that h22 :tu: to a another proud cb7 owner. Any dyno runs? Any goodies in the motor? You could do a 5th gen (96-97) lip and amber corners just small adjustments and maintain the sleeper look. Overall looks really good.

looks great, i might just go to maaco to get them to fix a couple dents i have
deevergote.
02-22-2004, 02:06 AM
I actually have a 5th gen lip that 92accordDX gave me... It's a stock 94-95 lip though. It looks good held up to the car, so I can't wait to put it on!
I've decided against the pro-kit now, since the drop is so slight. I want a slightly lower look, probably 1.75 (like our beloved h22sparkle :p) H&R springs will give me that... Konis are a definite though.
Engine bay was hit with simple green today, so it looks pretty good... needs lots more work though!
Motor goodies and dyno runs/tuning are yet to come... suspension first, then wheels, transmission (lsd, clutch, flywheel)... then a full build for turbo.
And I'll be getting new corners soon as well... probably ambers.
deevergote.
02-28-2004, 07:54 PM
Ok, the amber corners are in :D And I'm short one extra power steering pump, as well as an extra Prelude shifter...
Anyway, in addition to the corners, I also have a Neuspeed short shift adapter installed (to hold me over till I can afford the real thing, anyway). And whenever it's nice enough outside, and time permits, I'll be installing a 5th gen lip. Thanks Jay! :tu:
92accordDx
02-28-2004, 09:23 PM
no problem mike im glad i could help ya out thanks for the lude shifter and ps pump you saved me alot

hells yea that color is nice in person and i cant wait for the next meet to see the lip and maybe a drop but "time will tell" thats my moto. damnit jay i wanted that prelude shifter assembly haha. mike where did you happen to find it
mauricio
deevergote.
02-29-2004, 04:30 PM
It came with the swap :) The adapter is pretty cool too... I'll want to get a real shifter eventually, but that'll work...
Jay, we should see if we can get a group buy thing going on the 4bidden one (that's what you're going for, right?) We would make 2, and I'm sure there are plenty of people who would want to get one... What are they normally, $160 or something?
Also, I'm looking to do the 9005-9006 Silverstar conversion. $20 a pop for the bulbs is the best I can find. Does anyone know where I can get em for less? I think I'll just do the regular driving lights for now, since I rarely use my high beams...
92accordDx
02-29-2004, 09:01 PM
yea i would like to they go for 125 each on forbiddenmotorsports.com he is on the site so im sure we could pm him and see what he could do and when his next group buy would be i would like to get it soon. i installed the prelude shifter and baseplate today its nice alot shorter then the accord one
excalibur02
02-29-2004, 09:10 PM
NNNNNOOOOO!!!!!
i want a prelude shifter n plate n da whole nine yards
where u get it bro
oh yea try to make friends with people that work at a car plates i got some and got all my 9005 silverstars for the price of a superstreet magazine
i would get the forbidden shifter deal if you give me enough time to get the plata
mauricio
92accordDx
02-29-2004, 10:20 PM
yo dont need the plate to have the shifter you can do what blamethepunx did to shorten the hight so when ya get the forbidden lever it doesnt rub on the console. It will fit the accord plate so you dont have to get the prelude plate.
deevergote.
03-01-2004, 01:23 AM
Mauricio, you got your 9005s for the price of a magazine? (my favorite mag, no less ) Howzabout you get me a set for the same price, and I'll hook you up with $10 for your trouble!:laughy: I wish I had a Prelude shifter to trade you...

Your car is nice, and cant wait to see new pics w/everything. I got a Maaco paintjob, and yeah, to work is good for what you pay(I payed about 500 w/bodywork, and full colorchange) But make sure you specify everything before...they arent greatly helpful after your done unless you raise hell. I only wish I would have gotten a color w/a bit less metallic in it, its too much for me. Guess there is always a next time.
But get new pics up ASAP!
deevergote.
03-01-2004, 03:35 PM
You only paid $500 for a full color change? Wow... Did they do all the interior stuff (doorjambs, under the hood, etc...) or did you just get em to spray the exterior?
Man, I like my color, but I would like a change too! The best price I could find for a full change was about $1500, and that was if I helped do most of the prep work...
I'm not sure when the lip is going on, maybe sometime this week (asd blackhoused lights as well :D) Pics will definitely be posted when it's done. I'm sure Jay won't let me get away without snapping a few shots anyway!
Nope, didnt do underhood or anything. I had a new hood, and rear bumper, and some bodywork, so I just wanted it painted quick, and at $80 for just one doorjamb...it was def. not worth it. Hood was black, so it looks like its the same anyways.

Blacked out headlights... AND a 5th gen lip. I've been busy! I must say though, I'm happy with the results. For 6 hours worth of work, a power steering pump, and about $7, I can't say it was an expensive mod!
92accordDX helped me with it all, and it was a pretty good experience. And I didn't jinx it by constantly saying "this isn't as bad as I thought it would be!"

what suspension set up do you have cuz i jus switched to lowering springs the ride is way better but the ride height sucks im gonna have to cut the springs or go back 2 my skunks.
deevergote.
08-31-2004, 01:28 PM
It's listed in the mod list on the first page.
KYB AGX shocks and H&R Sport springs. The drop is about 1.75". Not too much, but the way I drive, I can't have any lower! I still whack my collector on everything.
Whatever you do, don't cut your springs. The springs are made with a certain spring rate, and when you cut them you destroy what the engineers planned. That means your car will be low, but your ride will suck... All handling advantages given by the springs will be out the window. Coilovers are good, but I personally don't like em unless they are very high end ($1,000 or more, usually). Springs are reliable performance-wise, and a $200 set of springs has a more responsive spring rate than a $300 set of coilovers.

Honestly tho man, I think the car would look even better if you lower it a bit more.....I don't know, I'm just a sucker when it comes to lowered cars...hehehe..I want as little gap as possible between the tires and the fenders..Haaha..That's just me tho...You using H&R Sports right?

Yeah, I'm on H&R Sports... It will probably settle a little bit more. It's only been a few months. I plan on getting some 45 height tires. The ones on there now are 40s, which are a little thin for me.
I can't drop it any more than that, or I'll destroy it. Hell, I hit a deer chunk last night and ripped my lip in half!

Not really an update, but I want to bump anyway :D
I'm graduating in a couple weeks, and I'll have a year and a half before grad school to work my ass off. That means that my cars (and my house) will get some new goodies!
For the CB7 (which is all that matters here) I plan on getting:
Exedy clutch and 11.9lb XACT flywheel
P28 - chipped, of course (duh!)
Custom in-car computer system (working on that now...)
Romulator (see where I'm going with this? :D)
and something secret (probably before the other expensive stuff above)... something that will cost me about $300.
Just felt like talking about my plans. Any suggestions on what to do next would be great!

Ok, just an update on my plans...
Nothing is being done just yet, but these are the ideas I'm throwing around in my head. I'm writing them down here for two reasons... One, so I can share with you guys. Two, so I don't forget what it is I want to do! For those of you that know me, I have a million ideas a day, and I forget all about many of them.
So, here we go:
I've been thinking about a RHD conversion. I could get a clip cheap, and sell the engine, transmission, and all the other goodies to make up for a good deal of the losses. Hell, I already have a potential buyer for the engine and transmission!
Underbody neon/LED lights... Amber. I actually prefer blue, but the amber would go with my bronze theme very nicely :D
Amber interior lights a la cpmike :D For the same reasons as the underbody lights.
Chipped P28 - for obvious reasons.
ur selling ur h22!? why!?

12-23-2004, 01:48 AM
Yup. Thanks Jay :D
I probably won't do the conversion now anyway... 93twodoorLX talked me out of it. The blind spot would drive me bonkers!
I'm looking into buying a Skyline once again... Plus the NA buildup of the H22. Those are my two HUGE projects (with the turbo 86 hatchback as a backup if the Skyline can't happen). The stuff listed there is just the small stuff that I will do if I get the time. I have a list a mile long of things I'd like to do...

mega props on the factory rims
What factory rims?
The car isn't too much of a sleeper anymore... No bodykit or anything, but it's lowered, rolling on 17's, sporting a LOUD exhaust, and lighting the way with custom HID projectors. I'm going mild, but I think I've progressed beyond sleeper!
I have lots of plans for the car in the future, but I'm kinda on a plateau now. I plan on replacing the clutch and flywheel this spring/summer, and adding a P28 whenever I'm able to get it. I hope to use some Christmas money for a Fushigi short shifter. Other than that, I'm just gonna leave it as it is. Nothing big. I'll still be planning for my next big move (cams, perhaps) but I probably won't take a major step till at least next Fall. I'm planning on a new kickass project for this summer :D Just something to play with, since I'm fairly satisfied with the CB7 for now.

I have the P28 sitting next to me. The chipping stuff is of to my good buddy Mikey. When he gets the stuff, he'll work his magic and I'll have more powah! (Thanks to Antoine and Jose for the maps/chips as well!)
I'm getting another set of wheels soon: EX 6 spokes (Like those in GreenCB7's sig, I believe... still haven't seen em, but I trust PrimoCB7! ) The Falkens I have now are for sale, but I plan on getting another set when my money situation returns to normal.
I AM buying a new clutch and flywheel this spring, since I plan on doing some major drag racing. I haven't decided on exactly what yet, but I'm leaning towards an 11.9lb flywheel from ACT and an Exedy clutch (Japan's #1 clutch you know! ) We shall see though. Looking to drop about $500 on parts, and install it myself... with some help, of course (jay, you know you're getting a call!)
I'm looking into cams, nitrous, possibly turbo yet again (doubtful, but h22sparkle puts forward a good argument!) we shall see!

Ok, once again my pre-purchase decisions. These are final. The money is being budgeted as I type :D
Exedy Stage 1 organic clutch
Fidanza 7.5lb aluminum flywheel (cheaper than the ACT, and Zigenballz loves this setup :D)
OBX helical LSD (think Quaife, only half the price :D)
Fushigi short shifter
93 EX 6 spoke alloy wheels
Those things ARE being purchased within the week. The sale of my BBS rims will cover the clutch and flywheel, and the rest is unspent Christmas money. Tomorrow is my birthday, so if I'm lucky someone will throw me some cizash then too
IN addition to those things, I have a buttload of other stuff to go on the car:
P28 (waiting for the chipping hardware to be tested)
AEM cam gears (may wait till I get some aftermarket cams)
New used Avital alarm
Used (but in good condition) weatherstripping
I'll update when I actually put this stuff on. I just wanted to jot my plans down here! (It's kinda fun to look back at when I didn't have things... or when plans change and I can see when I was "definitely" getting something... Like Konig Heliums :D)

Now that I bought my second car, my LX will have to wait on those things... That was the end of my extra cash. I'm planning on boosting the DX before putting any major work into the LX. That means the H22 will be a daily driver in semi-limp-mode (the clutch works, but not enough for serious racing). Stay tuned for a Member's Ride thread about the DX! :D

^^Come to think of it Mike. That phantom grey is very rare to buy. You might see a couple here and there tho.
I have made two observations.
1.They are difficult to find on sale
2.I think they were only made in the US
I might be wrong on #2, so correct me if necessary.

 Lower it? It IS lowered! Nearly 2 inches. I'm getting some 45 series tires with my next set (or the equivalent, since I'm looking to replace the 17s with 16s...) That wheel gap is due to the tires, not the ride height.
I always thought Phantom Gray was a fairly common color... though now that I think about it, I can't remember seeing that many!

I never ran it on the dyno, so I don't know for sure. The JDM H22 is 200hp at the crank, so roughly 170 to the wheels stock. My mods MIGHT get me 15 more to the wheels... that could be overestimating it though!

Project boost isn't this car... I need to get a camera so I can make a Member's Rides for the DX! It's slow though... Funds are short, and I need an ECU, oil lines, boost gauge, and injectors. That's about $300 or so left to go. Then I have to drill the manifold, extend my charge pipes a little, and fit everything. I'd say I'm about 1/3 of the way there!

Luis, I didn't even think of pics by the time I found you... I just wanted out by that point! Too damn hot! I can't promise anything for the Palisades meet, but I'll try.
Adam, those wheels were BBS RXs, and yeah, they looked great. They were all bent up though, and it bothered me to no end. I sold 5 of them with 4 tires for the price of one new one to rcknrll. I hope he can fix em up and make em what they should be!
I'm now running Primo's old 93 EX/SE 6 spoke stockers. They look pretty good. Not as good as the Falkens, but I can't afford to replace the tires on the Falkens just yet! Primo gave me a nice new pair of Kumho HPs on two of those wheels, so I'm rockin them for a while!
As for the headlights, everything was done by HIDtech.com. iceking66 (who sold his car to icedplaya123) had them done. I got them in the deal when Juan (icedplaya) bought the car (I helped with buying it... got those BBS wheels too). I don't believe they're cheap, but contrary to some of the horror stories I've heard, they did an impecable job. Perhaps because they're located in New York, and iceking66 ALSO lives in NY... don't poop where you eat!

 I actually DO have one... my camera is in my car though, and it's late. Tomorrow! :D
I need to do stuff to the poor beast. I have SO many parts to put on! Before I can do anything though, I need to get my clutch in! The stock clutch is HORRIBLE anymore. I need to do the master and slave cylinders too.
I also have to: take the brake master cylinder from the DX and put it in the LX. Get the drag slicks I'm getting from Primo mounted and ready for racing. Fix my embarassing squealing belts. Remove my power steering and close the loop. Remove my cruise control. Clean out my EGR ports. Get my P28 after Mikey chips it (if that ever happens! :p). Fix my crazy shift cable issue (it's really stiff...) Install my 5th gen lip (had it for a year now in my basement) Put on my sidemarkers. Fix the DX trunklid, paint it PG, and install my supersecret spoiler. THEN I need to locate a nitrous tank and install my nitrous kit!
Yeah, lots of stuff... :D
TypeG, I have the wheels, but they're in my basement. The tires are shot due to bad alignment. I LOVE them, but I think I may sell and get 16" or 15". 17" is just too big for me! I wreck them, and those Falkens are so wide that the negative camber (half a degree without a camber kit with the stock wheels) does some significant damage. I HATED using a camber kit, so I think I'll stick with skinnies!

This pic is kinda washed out, but you can see what's done. I now have no power steering :D The belt was on WAY too tight (my shop used a belt that was too small... couldn't adjust it any further... so I just snipped it). The engine IS a little peppier, but it's going to take some getting used to!

Jak Frostwhite told me that it's a direct copy of a DC Sports bar, if not actually manufactured BY DC Sports. Works for me! It really does help... Honestly, driving with no power steering seems a little easier with it. Maybe it's my imagination, or maybe the lack of flex means I'm doing less work to turn... I dunno... I'm happy!
Bill, just do what I did... pull your belt (you can probably just take yours off... I had to cut mine) If you don't like it without PS, put it back on!

TTT, I'm very anxious to see your CB again Mike, looking awesome as usual :tu: What are your plans for the P/S? You can make it much easier and bypass the pump altogether and loop the Hi-Pres. line and the return, but I'm sure you already knew that :p! I like the drop too, very practical indeed, that's what I'm debating right now!
Oh, also, PM sent!

Yeah, it's in the plans to close the PS loop. I don't mind it horribly without the power steering... I just don't ever want to parallel park! I tried it last week... it wasn't fun (and I pulled out and parked down the street... )
My new clutch is AWESOME. I need to add that to my info. I can't wait to hit the track in the upcoming weeks!
If you do drop, the 1.8/1.5" that I have is VERY practical. You get the benefits of a lower stance, but you don't hit everything. You still need to be careful over some things, and wide wheels will create camber issues, but overall it's a very easy transition. You sacrifice some of the handling of the lower setups, but you gain a little more drivability (at least you keep some of the stress out of it!)
New pics and specs coming soon, I promise!

No, that won't be going on my car. I'm trading/selling it to a friend. The idiots that made it tapped the wrong holes, so it won't fit without using pins and eliminating the hinges... not what I want. When I buy a CF trunklid again, it will NOT be from Street Concepts!

that sucks deev. how would it come off? pins like a hood and just pop straight off?

12-12-2006, 01:09 AM
Yeah, I suppose... Pop the pins, turn the key, and lift that sucker right off! When I had it sitting on the car (with the hinges tied down) it looked damn good. I definitely want another one in the future! I just don't want to deal with pins :D My friend, on the other hand, isn't opposed to going a bit more stripped down. The additional weight savings of removing those rear springs appeals to him, I believe. I've seen race and show cars with trunk pins, so it's nothing too weird.
Hell, if I eliminated the latch on my hood and just used pins there, it would look perfect as well! I think I know how to fix that though...

T3aM 83rD
01-28-2007, 08:37 PM
i've heard really bad storys about Nankang tires blowing out. if you look really hard you could probably find a set of tires shipped for around $250.
Those rims look real good, too bad they were out of my price range when i was looking for wheels.
deevergote.
01-28-2007, 09:47 PM
Yeah, they're great rims. I needed tires, and I figured I might as well go for some good rims! I've only seen one other CB7 with them so far, and that car was white... so nobody looks like me just yet! Hanabis are still fairly uncommon rims, even though they're advertised in all the major magazines.
As for the Nankangs, I'm not thrilled with the brand either... but I don't have much money to spend these days, and $100 for a set of nearly new 17" tires is unbeatable. You can put rubber on steelies for that price! I have a few connections to get free mounting and balancing as well...
I DO plan on getting some REAL tires, but I may do that on my 15" stock alloys (not sure if I want to do it to the 6 or 7 spokes... I have 2 good sets). Good tires are much cheaper for 15" wheels, and performance can often be better, even with more meat. The 17"s will pretty much just be for show. I'll throw them on when I'm not doing any heavy driving.
heya, mike!
u sold the volvo already?
nice cb you have here,... how about the dx??? vet thru all 10 pages of this thread and kinda got a rough idea of watz happenin'.
can u elaborate on the terms you guys use to describe a cb??? sleeper, rice, ummmm ???

01-28-2007, 11:30 PM
The Volvo will HOPEFULLY be sold this week. I ended up coming home early from work today, so the guy that wants it didn't get a chance to check it out. I have the whole interior apart anyway!
The DX I mentioned was wrecked... it was going to be turbo, but I spun out and wrecked the rear. Parted it out. It was a shame... nice little car.
As for the terms:
Rice is basically a term for anything that's gaudy or unacceptably flashy. Big, ugly wings, obnoxiously large or cheap looking wheels, "appearance" mods done to a car that is in great need of repair (rust, crazy dents, horrible paint). It's pretty much just a slang term for a car or parts on a car that are ugly :D It comes from the term "riceburner" which is a slang term popular in America for Asian cars (since rice is so strongly associated with Asian cultures). It's dumb, and often used by ignorant people, but it is what it is. A "ricer" is someone who chooses to modify their car in "ricey" ways (as explained above), or someone who drives as if their car is the greatest thing on the road (idiots with loud exhausts on Civics that weave through traffic and speed down small residential streets are pretty much the epitome of "ricer" )
A sleeper is a car that doesn't look very fast... no extreme exterior modifications whatsoever... Basically, my car in the early stages (and some would say now, even). With 75 more horsepower than stock, while riding around with hubcaps and stock suspension, my car was quite a sleeper :D Nobody expected it to be fast at all.

Thats funny. I used to hear the term "rice rocket" a lot back in the '70s as a kid.
ok,... so, ricey and sleeper. maybe i define ur LX as a sleeper whoz 3/4 "awaker" :p :p :p
yeah, we asians hv rice for most lunches and dinners.
any other terms used? say, my cb3??? all stock, no rust, no mods.
or other conditions of cbs???

Those terms aren't really CB specific. If your car is stock and in good condition, "clean" would be the main description. Sure, it's a common word, but in terms of cars, it often goes to describe a car that's well maintained and retains most of the factory lines. It's not as common to see a car with a bodykit called "clean" :D
Still, nothing is a steadfast rule. They're basically just terms that have a general understanding. More opinion than anything else. Calling a car "rice" is about the same as saying it's stupid or ugly.

 It currently has a stripped sparkplug hole on cyl #3, the only good tires I have left are on those steelies, and I need to figure out how to realign my front end... it was hit before I got it, and nothing really sits right! At the moment, it's sitting plateless in my driveway. It's completely off the road for another few weeks, most likely.
http://www.cb7tuner.com/down.JPG
HOWEVER!
I have Collective Racing traction bars in the basement, another H22 head due to arrive on my doorstep tomorrow, and plans to buy a Bisimoto header as soon as possible. I'll realign the front end, polish my headlights, replace my taillight aquarium, wash her, wax her, get tires for the Falkens, and we'll be in business again! Looks like crap at the moment, but the paint is still less that a year old. Washed up, it looks really nice still!
I miss the BBSs too. I had them for a short time. They were all fairly bent up. I sold them to rcknrll or something here on the board. He got a full set with tires, plus one extra GOOD wheel, for like $400... so it was a good deal if he could fix them! I wouldn't mind another set. Too bad they don't make the RX in our bolt pattern anymore :(
Also, that red hood in the background is now on gloryaccordy's car. I have a black primered replacement hood in its place (if anybody local needs a hood... and glory still owes me $20 for the red one!)

Yeah, CF looks good on the green... especially with your dark wheels!
The look that XR goes for is terrible on our cars, IMO. There are a few nice showy cars around here (customlowz, for one) but overall, our cars look better with clean lines, non-chrome wheels, and a bit of a sporty appearance.

 Yeah, I'll NEVER get rid of this one. This is my original CB7, and was still my DD until the engine started acting up a few months back. The red DX that I got was just a toy... I was going to boost it, blow it, and sell it :D
The Pontiac is a pain in the ass. I'm waiting on FedEx to deliver my new 12" rotors to replace the lousy 10.9" crap that it came with stock, and they aren't bringing them :( I have the signature card on my door now, and they should've come today! The CEL is on, and I have to get it checked out. The transmission fluid needs to be changed. It handles like a freight train, and it's a total petroholic. I miss the hell out of the CB7! The only good things about the GTP are the ice cold AC and the black leather seats (which, without the ice cold AC, would SUCK in the 90 degree weather we've been having! )

Still down... drivable, but it misses when the plug gets pushed up. I haven't called the shop yet (and they apparently don't answer emails, even though they have one listed)
Another financial snag (well, two in one) has gotten me by the short and curlies, so I'm holding off until I know I can do it right! I may have to put the new head on... which will be a MAJOR project (the trans has to come off so I can mark or replace the flywheel... since I have no timing marks on it! I don't want to swap the head and expect it to be perfect)

I have the new head, but I can't afford to do anything to it just yet. If the old head can't be repaired without removing it, I'm going to put the new one on (read above for my gripes about that). If it CAN be repaired on the block, I'll save to build the new head... and yes, I plan on doing it all :D Might send it off to ESP to have them work on it, as their prices seem reasonable, and they're an authorized seller here on the site (gotta take care of the people that take care of us!)

doubt it you get the thread fixed. cus of the round tube inside the cylinder head that bothers the thread tool to get down there. it isnt really hard taking off the cylinder head.
deevergote.
07-20-2007, 07:57 AM
Supposedly there's a shop that can replace the threads with a Time-Sert insert. I've read about it being done with the head on, and the Time-Sert website even shows how to do it... It just depends on 1.) If the shop will do it, and 2.) How much they'll charge. If it's cheaper to put the head on, I'll do that.
And with my car, it will be a pain in the ass to do the head... mainly because I pretty much have to redo the clutch at the same time! Also, water pump, timing belt, probably replace any seals I can get to... If I'm going to do so much work, I'm going to get everything done in that area that I can!

Not putting in a new one... just taking everything apart so I can mark the stupid flywheel (which means I have to source a stock flywheel... ) The clutch and pressure plate have to come off for me to accurately mark the flywheel (I plan on lining up a stock one, and just carrying the marks over... should work)

Thanks Carlos, I may need to! I just need it for the markings, though... so if I can find one cheap in a junkyard, I'll just grab that. Easy stuff if someone yanked the transmission already! I don't know why I didn't pull the flywheel off of my DX motor before I sold it... it went to 97Lude, and he was putting it in an auto anyway!

you dont NEED to pull it apart to mark it to do a head swap... you could mark where the dizzy is lined up before you pull it off  but if you want to set timing for real tho yeah youd need it.

Excuse me?
I asked a simple question.
At the moment you ARE starting shit, because I simply asked a valid question, which you clearly can't answer, and instead made some confrontational reply to.
If you would have read, he has been having problems because of a stripped spark plug, and not a bad engine.
It is far easier to have a spark plug thread fixed, than to pull an engine, replace said engine, and then boost said engine.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Deev, I agree with Mike.
If you TDC everything when you pull it apart, then the bottom end shouldn't move.
And since you have to remove the T-belt anyway, you can always double check the marks under the lower timing cover to make sure it is all lined up.
It has a crank reference, and a front balance shaft mark, on the oil pump housing.
The head will be easy to get into TDC before you put it back on.
If you really want to mark the flywheel, then I would just get a little jar of nail polish and make a mark through the timing window that aligns with the little pointer on the block. There should be some material there, that is next to the teeth.
That would only take a few seconds, and you won't have to tear the tranny off.
Really, the mark on the flywheel doesn't do anything unless you are setting the dizzy anyway.
It isn't a bad idea to make it, but it isn't necessary for the purpose of fixing the head either.
If you mark the dizzy and camshaft end cap before you remove the dizzy, you should be able to line the dizzy back up within a degree or so.

The head has a stripped sparkplug hole. I already have a backup head (thanks, peego!) in case fixing this one goes over budget. If the current motor can be fixed without pulling it apart, I'll build the spare. If I have to pull the old head off to install the spare, I already have a potential buyer for the slightly damaged head (which should be easy to fix off the block)
I don't get the "why don't you just go turbo?" mentality... Turbo is great, but when you put 50,000 miles on your car each year, it's better NOT to have something that shortens the lifespan of the motor!

The only thing I'm afraid of is having the crank and cams not being 100% lined up as they are now. As things are now, I can set the dizzy to that mark that we so very fortunately made when we did the clutch, and I'm good. I don't want to risk changing the other factors that have until now been constants. I'll need to do it eventually anyway.. I mean, I'm well over 100,000 miles on this motor, and I'm pretty sure the timing belt is original (another down side to having the motor installed for me!)

The timing isn't at TDC though... it's 15 degrees off. That's why I want the stock flywheel to match it up. Line up the stocker with the bolts, and the mark will be right there. Just make sure #1 is at TDC, and then I'll have my 15 degree mark thanks to the stocker.
If I can ever meet up with 93lx, I'll have a Fidanza flywheel to replace the XTD :D

I have a question to ask you my hasty friend.
I have a dilema...
do I upgrade the cam to a 262 or 272 ..run a H23 intake mani...full exhaust and run a PT6 ECU
or..
swap the H23A head I have stored in my closet...272 cams...and look around for a PO6 and have MRX or D112 chip and tune it? ( I have the auto P14 as well )
I need to get this done ASAP..but Im stuck on which setup to go with!

NOTE: Im debating on getting a H23 tranny with all the goodies ( 8-12lb flywheel w/ upgraded clutch )
Need your input on my dilema!

Anyway, yeah, steelies up front. They were on the DX when I crashed (wouldn't have crashed if all 4 tires were new...) New tires, so when my old tires went I just threw those on. Can't waste good tires! I never got realigned after I put the H&R Race on there. Holding up pretty well, though!
