West Coast Meet - Monterey: June 4-5

ok. so I accidentaly deleted the other thread (I have moments of severe mental retardation, please forgive me)

Here's the deal:

WHERE: Monterey, CA
WHEN: June 4th- 5th (saturday and sunday)
WHO: Whoever wants to come : )

Carmel Beach seems like a great place for a party/ BBQ/ meet on Saturday and maybe some good photos.

We could also do photos on Sunday ... the scenery is a gorgeous background for our cb's : )

I'm also interested to know who'd be staying overnight (i think it will be most of us) and maybe I can find a place that will get us a good deal if we get a bunch of rooms...

I contacted the visitors bureau in Monterey and got some good tips on parking lots for a photo shoot - i think well do that on sunday - it seems like the best idea

so still, anyone who wants to roll in early - we can party hard saturday nite and then have a meet on the beach sunday noonish i guess

Great place for a foto shoot is absolutely right !!! Went there when I was living in Hawaii
for a shoot we did for Ford .. Lighting was AWEsome.. models were .. ::::faint::::
everything was 1/60th at f/8 for soooo long .. the sunset was like I was at home at Makaha Beach .. oiii
And heyyy ... we went to Lake Havasu once and did the *lets chip in and get a room* thingy ..

Wow! I am suprised you found a hotel that cheap. I was expecting $120 for a closet. Monteray is known for being one of the upper class rich yuppie towns. Even Mc'donalds over prices in monteray. Is there camping on Carmel Beach? I'm not really familiar with that area. I'm gonna look so I don't get yelled at, just if somebody knows off hand.

Well I have never camped there before but from what I see most of the places that would be cool to camp at are about a few miles north of monterey.Right now Manresa Upland State Beach is about 5 miles north of monterey and they have tent camping, beach bon fires, restrooms, and showers. Plus it is a non-city beach (more like a camp ground beach) so we don't have to worry about getting harrassed by cops. Knowing that we might have a couple people drinking who are a few days shy of 21 I think it would be the best idea. There is also seacliff but I don't think they allow fires. I am going to continue searching and talk to some of my friends from santa cruz, they know were all the good shit is at. I will have a good one picked out by tomorrow. I am also trying to

bracer SHOULD be getting back to us about the best spot to camp, but i have been researching on my own, and i think i will try to save a couple spots at manresa upland state beach - it seems to be the best place. i will find out the cost hopefully tomorrow and get back to you guys - - one spot shouldn't be more than $20 per nite, and i don't see why we'd need more than three spots, so split a few ways... well that's hella cheaper than a hotel room

...yeah sunset is all booked up

it looks like our best chance will be trying the memorial park IN monterey -- b/c it is a first-come first-served place... all the beaches i have found in the direct area are booked, if they take reservations -- and btw - seacliff is an RV only park :( :thumbsdwn:

...i also found some beaches with the same policy, but they are an hour south of carmel -


so if anyone knows any better tips - let me know -- I am willing to leave here late morning on saturday to make sure we get a place and have time to chill and hangout for the afternoon

but here's my thought:

Veteran's mem. park in monterey only goes first come first served -- so i think if we get there @ check in time on saturday it shouldn't be a problem getting a couple sites ( i think that'll be early afternoon)

no its not on the beach.. but we could still chill out with some beers around a campfire which i still think would be killer and then cruise down to carmel for photos on sunday

i also know that the campsites at laguna seca are rarely used (by the mazda raceway) ...

ive tried to call the park but they seem to be not answering due to the holiday -- ill keep trying tomorrow and monday and then tuesday...

but i think that would be a good bet

i haven't heard any better sooo...

ok I've been watching the open site list @ Sunset state beach and FINALLY there were cancellations -- so I grabbed up two sites ... its 8 per site max and they have overflow parking (2 car/ site limit) if we needs it

it cost me $65 so whoever comes, we'll just split it evenly ... so it'll be damn cheap unless you all punk out!!!!


Check-in time there is 2pm - and for the LA peeps i'd like to get up there around 2 or 3 so we have time to chill out and check out the area ... which means i'll be leaving my place at about 10am

I am adding an invitation if anybody wants to come out this way friday nite and chill and crash so you don't have to drive so far on saturday - lemme know -- and if you don't creep me out (RAMIRO :)) maybe i'll tell u where I live

hope that sounds good -- i think 2 sites is enough space right? they're 21 foot sites... if u think we need another one - lemme know

all you LA kids can meet me in Ventura at Barnes & Noble:


FROM THE 101:Take the Telephone road exit off the 101N in Ventura and make a right - ill be in the Barnes & Noble parking lot... it's right there

FROM THE PCH:
when the freeway ends after Pleasant Valley Road, make a left at Channel Islands Blvd and continue on through town -- at Ventura Road you will see to your left the big razor wired fence around the navy base, and at Victoria Road that fence will end -- continue straight as channel islands turns into harbor (you don't have to do anything, it just changes) -- take this a couple miles to Olivas Park Road and turn right, then at the next light (~1 mi) make a left onto Telephone Road you will pass under the 101 freeway about 1/2 mile (5 lights?) down the road and then B&N will be just there on your right

....looks like a lot but it really isn't - i just added in some landmarks so you don't think you're lost


SO we'll leave from Barnes & Noble im hoping for 9:30 am but 10 would be fine -- i would just like to get up there sooner than later so we have time to relax and whatever - if we leave at this time then we should get there btwn 3 & 4 with a stop in the middle somewhere


as for parking, yes there is overflow parking available


as for food - i dunno i imagine there's a grocery store up there that we can all go in on. what i have done in the past with group camping trips is we all chip in like 10 bucks, decide what we want to eat, then a couple people go get the food -- whatever change is left we just divide up evenly

***EDIT*** i left it at 2 sites - we have 12 rsvp's for the nite so i think 2 will be fine***

$5 per person to camp + $6 per car to park

you can pay ME directly $5/ ea for camping since i have already made the reservations and three others may pay me another $6 directly for the other 3 spots at the sites

anyone else will pay for a parking pass from the front of the park when we arrive and will park in the overflow area for the nite

anyone who is under 18 NEEDS to bring a written permission note from a parent...it's park regulation and i won't be held responsible if they turn you away...

I don't know where we'll meet on sunday yet - prob close to the park - but i plan on scouting that out once we get there - i will also be washing my car again once we arrive b/c i imagine it will get messed up on the drive :D

i think sunday we should meet altogether outside the park at say 11 then cruise down to carmel beach for pics and BS :D

anyone notice that that i took the longway around the bay :angry: back to 101.. by the time i realized it, i was hitting the bridge and couldnt do anything, letme tell you that is one longa$$ bridge with no way to turn back till the end of it. atleast i got to travel with the group. let me know of other meets coming up. peace

Depending on how bad it is,I would try Denatured Alcohol. You have to wax it after you get done because it will strip the wax thats on there,if any. If that doesn't work,I really don't know what to tell you,I never came across that before. The worst I had to do was getting paint splatters off a car,and the denatured alcohol worked really good. Give that a try and see what happens. Let me know. Take care,

I went as fast as my 4Runner would go without getting shaken up,and watching that gas gauge go down. If I still had the Honda I would have really kept up with you guys. I was doing 80 most of the time,thats fast for a vehicle that tall,and that was full throttle. LOL. See you guys next time.

I believe it's just the tires because one tire is just about bald due to normal wear and tear. I'm going to be hopefully getting new wheels and tires this weekend,31X10.50 15 along with the chrome wheels that a friend of mine has,he's just giving me. The tires alone are about 140 a piece.
