very nice indeed.
awesome paint job. i love the green.... 'tis ultra clean.
i was going to ask you about your stock wheels... i wanted to know how you got the paint to look so damn shiny, but the mod list explains it :)
i might have to add a few more coats to mine.
a carbon fiber hood would look nice on your cb7.

thanks a lot man...can only hope to get it to one day attain the level of pimp status your 'ccord has :)
Yeah dude, I put a ton of clearcoat on it...prolly shouldn't have been so hasty and put them on the day after when I first did em. Paint was still tacky a day later and the paint on one rim totally wrinkled and melted off while driving haha. I think it takes like 2 or 3 days for them to totally cure when putting on massive amounts of clearcoat, but hopefully I won't have to redo my rims anytime soon.
p.s.: your flat black rims are incredibly nice...totally remind me of rota subzeros

welcome to the site! i've seen your car on a number of other sites well. make sure you check out all the different forums on here- something for everybody.
back to the subject at hand though, the car looks good. those wheels look very good. the car is clean, which seems to be a growing trend with the cb7. in any event, good job with the ride so far, best of luck in the progress of it. :D

what size tires you got on there?
fliplyricist1
12-14-2003, 01:46 PM
thanks for the feedback/ suggestions fellas :)
I definitely want to get a cf hood, but that's like way down the road due to the price, and right now getting new struts/alignment and the h22 are my primary objectives before any cosmetic mods. I'm not really in a rush either, due to the fact I'm probably never gonna sell the car...prolly just keep it as the grocery getter if I ever get a newer ride (lose too much money in the secondary market...plus my car insurance just dropped in half due to my record/ being 24).
The tires are stock size 205/55 potenzas...I woulda gone lower profile but my parents paid for them back in the day so I can't complain. Ideally I'd like a new set of rotas in 16's, but again that's far down the road from here.
Thx again for the feedback guys and hope to see more pics of your rides as well

I don't think CB7's were that clean out of the factory...your car is a show winner IMO...
How much did it cost to get your moldings/lip painted? I'm thinking of going that route after the drop...

Sweeeeeeet! love the diy mods, crazy to think u did it ur self cuz they look really good.
fliplyricist1
02-09-2004, 03:42 AM
thanks a bunch for the comments guys, but my car is farrr from a show winner lol I just try to keep it clean as I can and the mods as tasteful as I can (though tasteful is subjective, but most of the people's cb7's in my area are the same blah blah bling bling rims and chome this/chrome that) beauty is in the eyes of the beholder ...
about the lip/moldings...all in all it cost me about probably 60 bucks to do it, about 12 cans of color match dupli color spray paint and some adhesive promotor and some 400gritt and 800 gritt sheets of sandpaper
it really was a pain in the ass since I moved out of the house and my parents wouldn't let me use the garage so I had to do it in the apartment and my girlfriend just about killed me
took me about 2 weeks to do the whole car since I did the sideskirts one weekend and the front and rear lips another weekend
I need to redo the front lip and the 2 front mudflaps though as I've managed to scrape them up a bit when I first dropped my car and didn't know how to handle inclines : /
I kinda hate those pics because the amber corners on the euro sidemarkers looks gaudy...I'll try and take pictures of the car tomorrow with the new mods after I wash n' wax, hopefully if the weather permits
thanks again for the feedback guys...and props to ya'll for having some damn nice cb7's as well :)

1crawlin...dude I always thought you had an aftermarket light blue paint...maybe it's just my monitor...always looked good though :)
anyways, I spent about 4 good hours today washing and doing the 3 step polish/swirl remover/wax job today and was bored and took some pics
newest mods : diy jdm amber painted sidemarkers
diy blackout grille
tokiko illuminas up front ...still waiting to find a good deal for some rear struts
new set of 92-93 red/clear tails (my left tail on my old set got pretty messed up with water : / )
not much else...was thinking about getting a mugen knockoff lip but I'm pretty much dropped about 2.5 inches now that the springs have settled and I would break it in a few days garaunteed

haha thanks man and thanks again everyone....dude I think it's just the color balance of that particular pic..either that or my monitor is gheeeetto (most likely the last choice lol).

thanks a lot for the replies/critiques/suggestions guys much appreciated :)
Regarding the sidemarkers, they were pretty difficult, but I used a cheap Radio Shack 'metal nibber' so it was a painstaking and time consuming process. I also was in a rush and kind of made a boo boo and some of the hole is slightly visible from the undersides (not noticable unless you get up close and look under the sidemarkers). If I could do it all over again, I'd definitely do it right and use a dremel.

removing the corners requires nothing but a screwdriver to take out the screw on top and then just slide it out towards you. It may take a little elbow grease but it'll pop out eventually.
p.s.: My blackhousings and corners are now up on ebay :) link in sig...I'm going to do a bmw bi xenon retrofit with a little twist

Thanks a lot man...the clear sidemarkers are actually the same sidemarkers you see on the later pages...just diy painted and clearcoated amber. I got them off I think autodynamic 's website about 2 years ago...so I'm not sure if it was them or procarparts.com . Regardless, they're just '90-93 accord' euro style sidemarkers. One of those two online stores has em :)

mine has low miles on it but unfortunatly the person before me didn't take good care of the interior much less even wash the outside. oxidation has taken over my hood and roof... i need to get a paint job, one that shines like yours. thx again for the comments/suggestions fellas
I'm really not going to dump any money into bolt on's or other performance related aspects until I drop the h22 in there next year (my plan as of now)
I dunno...kinda have second thoughts and wondering if I should boost the ol' f...probably not though, I'd like a better platform to work with and I'd rather just beef up the h22 and go all-motor
never took pics of what's under the hood because there is nothing under the hood lol. At least nothing to cheer about...just a short ram intake and a bunch of stock everything. Last time I cleaned the engine bay was about a year and a half ago and I waxed the underside of the hood and everything, but since then it's snowed and now it's back to its dirty self again, so rather not take pics of the dirty bay lol ;)

But here are some pics I took yesterday after I spent about a good 5 hours washing/cleaning/polishing/waxing/detailing the car. Oh yeah, I also did some engine wiring and used a foglight harness to turn the h1's to daytime running lights/foglights...it REALLY illuminates the road like crazy at night and I've never had that good road illumination ever; I love it. I just have to re-aim the right one so it doesn't glare. I also ordered some yellow bulbs so I can get the TL look goin on. Didn't get to install the camber kit yet though : / guy needs to send me an extra part.

warmed up (purple at an angle and very intense white from front...almost like Acura TL)

road illumination, very white light casted (still not aimed correctly, have to find a nice parking garage sometime w/level surface)

beam pattern again...notice the rhd flares...but absolutely no glare for oncoming traffic and no worse than my stock bulbs in the glare department...I'm very pleased, since I was expecting a lot of stray light above the cutoff line, but there's virtually none

hey flip, they look so sweeeeeetttt i cant wait to get them. what brand are they and whats the themp rating on them?
car looks real good. it gets my thumbs up.
as for your comment on no glare to oncoming traffic... um.. well, the flare itself will be. but that's just the nature of JDM lights accentuated with HID. the reason you don't have the stray lights above the cut-off is because you got an h4 kit. the reason the altima had a ton of stray light was because they took the oem HID bulbs and jammed it into an h4 housing. the altima didn't have the underbelly shield. :)
in anycase, car looks great.

oo man, i'm lovin' the new pictures featuring the new blackhouse jdm headlights and HID kit...
... and i'll never get my oem wheels to shine like that, lol... they are still lookin' great.
a lot of cb7s in this forum are called 'clean', and it's true - the cb7 in stock form is a clean looking car.
but your car... is truly the definition and example of clean... all of the mods are tastefully done and it literally is a clean car (even the engine bay).

thanks a ton for the comments/suggestions/critiques fellas :)
My car can't really hold a torch to most of you who replied, but the best I can do is just try to keep it clean lol
As per the questions, the HID kit is a 7000k kit from Eagleye feat. Hella ballasts. I really like the color of this kit, it's rated at 2800k lumens. The light it projects unto the ground and forward is actually very very crisp white w/a hint of yellow, even though it looks really purplish from the side angles. I'm thinking if a bulb ever burns out I might try a set of 6000k bulbs, heard great things about them.
Yeah man, about the rhd 'flare', it's unfortunate and unavoidable, but swear on my life it doesn't case any glare to oncoming traffic, because I've looked at my car from every single onlooker perspective coming from the passenger lane and it doesn't glare at all unless you're about 5 feet away and you get a tad flash of glare because of the housing reflector. And the only other way I get glare is if I stare head-on and crouch down and look directly into the beams at equal level. All the glare in those pics are a fault of the camera...I need to mess around with the exposure settings because if you notice it accentuates glare in every pic, including the night pics where even my sidemarkers look glaring.
USC you were right man, it's primarily because it's an h4 kit and it's got the built in big metal sheild on the underbelly. I can't even imagine a d2s or d2r kit in a set of one pieces w/out retrofitted projectors...that would be a horrific experience for traffic lol. My only real primary concern now is cop attention. I just don't want a cop pulling me over because he sees the purple from the sides (even though the light is white) and wants to pull me over for a '20 dollar ebay purple bulb' rice infraction. So far so good...just keeping my fingers crossed lol.

yep, which is why i specifically went with the 4100k bulbs. i dun need no extra hassles from the authorities. and at least for my shields, they do an excellent job in blocking out the yellow as you may have seen my latest pic of the lights on my gallery.

Looks like i'm going to be stopping by the auto store for some flat black paint and clearcoat :) I think I'm going to keep the 90-91's if I like the fit of them with my 92-93 grille...I really really like their chrome trim which makes painting the outside of the light very easy and clean. Be forewarned, I'm going to be selling 2 pairs of jdm one pieces soon...and most likely the ones on my car in the pics...I'll keep you guys posted.
hehe, i see you bought the 1-pieces from honda-acura.com
i actually went there and saw those two sets. i wasn't interested in the 90-91 and as you see/notice, the damage on the driver's lens on the 92-93 plus the rubber weather strip missing. but they were letting them go for $100/pair, can't complain.

haha yeah man, you saw exactly the sets I ordered. I was kinda reluctant to buy the 92-93's, but he ended up selling them to me for 70 bucks shipped, so all in all I ended up paying 200 flat for both sets shipped. I was primarily in it for the 90-91's though, they're in great shape. The scratches on the 92-93 drivers side are actually pretty small and not as deep as I thought. I'm thinking I can take it down to a detailer and have them professionally sand and buff it down to see if they can get out the majority of it, hopefully. If not, they still look pretty respectable, but of course nothing you'd put on your car if you're in a car show.

yea it's mainly used for rim polishing but flip used it to polish his plastic jdm headlights. because of the elements, plastic headlights accumulate a glazed over time. also surface scratches appear due to road debris. the polish removes most of these leaving a nice smooth coat of protection. the headlights look new and road illumination increases due to the clean lenses.
i would only recommend this for plastic lenses (even bumper, corner, and taillight lenses). glass lenses such as USDM headlights usually don't glaze anyway. if used on glass, the polish will actually fill into the surface scratches eventually obstructing the light output. trust me, i've tried :p .

Well, yea, his car is darker than mine. But, the lip will match up pretty well, I think. The lip on my car right now is a little darker. The reason is because I had it painted and they could not match up the paint perfectly. So, it came out a little darker, but it still looks alright. So, I'm confident. But, thanks for the heads up guys. (Sorry for the thread-jacking)

Nothing new really to report...never got the mugen lip...they sent me the type-r lip instead and I didn't like it so I just got a refund and decided to stick with the stock lip since I'm already so low and tucked a bit up front.
One of my hid ballasts went out :( So I'm desperately seeking a ballast...any kind.
Took about 6 hours the last 2 days to clay/cleaner/swirl remover/polish/wax the entire car. I'm happy with the results. All original paint except for the hood and part of the bumper.
Next mod will be rota c10's in original sports bronze...I've definitely got my mind set on that.

thanks a bunch guys for the comments/critiques :) greatly appreciated peeps
as per the grill, I've had several inquiries but I unfortunately won't be able to make any for a long time, regardless of the price...due to school starting back up and such. I thought I had taken more pics of the grill in its infancy stages, but apparently not? I'll upload more if I find them...but here's basically a shot of the grill after 3 layers of fiberglass and some bondo'ing...was not close to being finished at this point and still needed a ton of sanding/some shaping:
http://www.hondasociety.net/uploads/pics/grillprogress1.JPG
Here's a pic of me butchering the 92-93 grill:
http://www.hondasociety.net/uploads/pics/grillprogress2.JPG
word to the wise...do NOT do this inside the house. I was an idiot for that, and lesson learned  This is probably one of the parts I hated the most, was removing the emblem
http://www.hondasociety.net/uploads/pics/grillprogress3.JPG
My dremel had the hardest time with it since it appears to have a metal backing, and once you cut it you'll see that you have to reshape and improvise the curvature to match the rest of the bar, especially since it protrudes in many areas.
And a pic of the final product being testfitted on the car...not the final fit (I lined up the eyelids and keep them affixed to the car with 3m double sided heavy duty square pads)
http://www.hondasociety.net/uploads/pics/grillprogress4.JPG
The paintjob is all original except for the hood and drivers side fender which had to be resprayed when I got into a front end collision a few months ago. I try to wash/polish/wax at least once every month. Definitely makes a difference. But I am going to repaint the front bumper and grill professionally after winter because I already know they're going to get owned by the snow and freakin salt stones they put on the highway. :( Oh well...when I do, I'll put the 3M invisible bra on there and it should keep it lookin new for awhile.
Sorry about being busy, but I'll definitely get the vid of the taillight mod up by tomorrow night
thanks again fellas :)

Using the claybar is pretty easy man. Just wash the car as normal, then using either the sudsy car wash solution or any kind of Instant Detailer spray, wet a small area and then gently work the claybar over the lubed surface, then wipe with a clean microfiber towel. After you do this the surface should be ultra slick. Always make sure to mead the claybar after doing a large area or a very dirty area, as you don't want that debris getting back on your paint job and scratching it up :tu:

I've already got an exact picture of what I want her to look like when all done, and I'm sticking with it

thanks alot bro, especially coming from a guy with an accord as clean if not cleaner than mine :)
I've had the moldings self-painted for about 4 years now, still no chipping. The only problem I have is on the front mudguards and the stock lip (which is now off the car) where the paint has flaked off the bottom due to constant scraping, etc. Else no chipping problems. I'm not sure why you're having problems man..did you put a lot of clearcoat? Also, did you really prep them well and use a good amount of adhesive promotor? I plan on just having everything repainted when I paint the whole car soon. I just want a new color already lol

not feeling the type one sticker, but i understand why it's there. hurry up and get the other sidemarker in the same position, and get the car resprayed to be sans sticker!
I really want rota auto-x's in black with red lip but they don't make em in our offset :(
there is a dual lug pattern rota auto-x that is 15 x 6.5 with a 40 offset. not too low, and not too wide. where you can get that wheel is beyond me, but per rota's website, it's available:
http://www.rotawheels.com/wheels.php
click on the pic of the auto-x, and it will tell you the available sizes.
oh, nice job on the cf lip as well.

uncle...thanks for the info, I was just thrown off by what some of the ebay auction said when they stated 114.8, which now I know was clearly erroneous. I'm still debating on whether I think they'll go with my car, however, since auto-x's only look good on cars that are pretty much slammed to the floor (due to them being 15's). D2's are coming out in 16" by the end of the year, so I'll make my decision by then
accordkid: thanks for the headsup on the links man haha
I just hate the northwest weather...I really wanted to get the paintjob during the summer, but not enough time and I didn't want to be rolling around with a primered car and have to do it all over again. Plus the grill was a PITA to make since it was my first experience with fiberglass and bondo. But by next spring the car should look like my dream cb7 with a few one-of-a-kind DIY exterior pieces like a custom flushmount wing and rear windshield spoiler
for now she shall remain untouched until after the winter road salts have left :(

didn't have to cut a thing except just trim the little mounting lip in the middle, which was cake
the sides are held on with 'drumroll' zipties, you can kinda see them in the pics
I would have mounted em using L brackets but who cares, you can barely notice anyways and they hold the lip fine. there has to be a good amount of pressure to bend the lip at the sides to make it line up but it lines up great, no visible gaps at all and no flare

tell you the truth I have no idea about the properties of carbon fiber...is it bendable at all? I would think carbon fiber lips are a little flexible, because I heard that they're not pure carbon fiber but fiberglass backed. I have no clue, but I would think it's doable considering I seen someone in one of these threads with a cf lip from another car.

OK, I get it now. Maybe if I was more familiar with those rims I'd have known they start white. You did after all say "fully polished".
1) So here's a nOOb question: How does one sand off all the paint, especially in the crevasses? And then after polishing did you clearcoat them?
2) Also --- I see some calipers now "in need of paint". But maybe not the usual red, something more subtle instead like charcoal gray might be better against the Arcadia. Even black would be OK.
I got a DupliColor Caliper Paint Kit (red) that I think looks great for my Titanium Gray MPV's calipers. $15 at Wally World (but they didn't carry other colors). Best part is you brush it on; don't have to take anything apart of tape off anything.
Anyway, not that you asked!

As per the grill, yep I made it out of a stock 92-93 grill and then a set of gts headlight covers, made several templates/measurements...then cut out the headlight covers. I wanted to make the 'eyelids' thicker and more substantial than the real chargespeeds so that it was more noticable and covered up the projectors just perfectly. Then I fibergallsed the two together with 3 layers of fiberglass cloth, and then several layers of bondo. Was a pain in the ass, but at the time I didn't have a job, and 300-400 for a grill was NOT in my plan. All in all, it's a mod I wouldn't trade for the world, but at the same time I'm not sure I would ever do it again.
I had a bunch of pics of the process, but unfortunately I lost all my files in a recent harddrive crash. Just takes some thought and ingenuity...I'd love to see one of you guys try and it post up your results...which'll be better than mine :)
