I would think you just replace the bushing... as far as if thats what it is, a wierd sound could be anything without more description we can't really help you, but that can easily be visually confirmed so I would say your mechanic is right

i got stuck possibly needing to replace that bushing... from what i learned, shops usuallt replace the whoel trailing arm, because the bushing needs to be pressed out and the new one pressed in, and that bushing isnt usually available alone, shops usually can only get the whole trailing arm...

so ur probly not gonna be able to replace it urself, and dont be surprised if any shop u go to tells u u need to replace the whole thing, unless u got the right bushing and they agree to try to push it in..

I've only found one site on the net that actually sold just the correct bushing. Its not in my favorites for some reason, but its out there...

EDIT: found it!! http://data.hondapartstore.com/parts/online/wizard.jsp?year=1993&make=HO&model=ACC-LX4-002&category=L&part=Trailing+Arm+Bushing&usemake=&returnurl=shop.hondapartstore.com

The description up top described the problem I was having, thats how i knew it was the right one... i guess more than just this site would sell it, but back when i first searched i had a hard time, and this was the only one i came up with. Good luck with your problem, let us know if the bushing worked.

Well your car is 13 years old, and factory bushing dont last forever. So go to any parts store and tell them what bushings you need, also put some grease on the new bushings so that they wont squeak. Also just look at the bushings, if they cracked-get new ones, if their hard-get new ones, if their gone-get new ones...if you get the bushings and need help on taking the suspension apart let me know.

you can replaced your trailing arm bushing(s) without replacing the entire part. IMO it's stupid to replace the part is it's structurally sound. Access to a arbor press will help you lots, make job alot easier. If you don't, remove the trailing arms & bring ur new bushings to any machine shop and they can press it in for you & press out the old.

grease will minimize squeaking but also ease the install when you press it in.

I've helped a friend with Nissan 240SX install a Whiteline suspension setup he bought & done lots of susp. work on our two 4th gens

look into replacing ur FR & RR sway bar bushings as well, if ur trailing arm bushing is shot. u'll notice the difference...assuming they are cracked or dry rotted as well
