so everyone give a little review of where there swap came from so people can see what all the options are. Mine personally was from a private seller. Somewhat risky because theres no warranty or anything, but so far so good. Just do your research first, especially if its from ebay.

are you rolling with a stock accord exhaust or did you upgrade?

I got mine from a good buddy of mine with a 93 SI lude. I did the whole swap myself and she's runnin strong so far. Another friend of mine has a 5th gen with a JDM H22 in his he bought from a website...i believe he paid 2400 for the entire swap and he hasn't had any problems yet.

I bought mines from a company that imports honda jdm motors. they are based in LA, California. She purrrss and she runs great. $1700 for the complete motor, but I only got that price because I knew the owner. Next up for me is a 5 speed swap.
Buying from a company is less risky than a private party. But becareful, there are engines out there that have been abused. Good luck finding one that wasn't.

Got mine from hmotorsonline.com... the engine runs great. Not a single problem with it! However, I never got my paperwork for it, so I don't have the exactl information or proof of legality (as promised...) Still, I'd recommend it!

$2100 with tax for a 95 J-spec H22, Lsd tranny, and ecu. At Best Japanese Engine here in GA, they let you come back in the warehouse and pick out your motor personally and free shipping. But that was back in 2001 when i got my swap.

I think the demand has increased since 2001... which means the prices have also increased :-(
$2100 is phenominal for a 95 with LSD... I would've been lookin at $2700 for that, and that's if they had any with LSD in stock. Still not too bad, since I had mine shipped accross the country.

Hey everyone! My name is Patrick and I'm new here, but I've been around forums for a little while. I have over 5,000 posts on Accordracing.com (http://www.Accordracing.com) and I hope to do the same here too. Anyways, I have two 91 EX 2dr's. One is a daily driver with a JDM H22A I ordered off of Ebay that a company www.streetdragz.com had for $2200 including shipping and all charges. My second one is getting converted to high speed racing which I haven't decided what kind of engine to put in it yet. I'm considering doing an H22A or F20B with a supercharger if I want to keep things simple, but I've been tossing around the idea of making it mid-engine RWD and if I do that, I might as well fo ahead and drop the C30/C32 (NSX) motor in there. I haven't decided, but that's the beauty of doing a 100% custom car...the possibilities are endless! Good luck on your motor swaps people and feel free to ask me if you need any help with anything or any parts cause I have just about any Accord part you could possibly need. And for full motor swaps, http://www.osakajdmmotors.com/ has full swaps for $1900-2000 on average all the time and they're a reputable place so that may be a good place for you to look.

If you do that mid-engine conversion I MUST see that! And before anyone calls BS, keep in mind that anything can be done with enough money! I wonder if you could make it AWD as well...
Anyway, Osaka is crap. I did lots of research and came VERY close to ordering from them. I mentioned that I had heard a few bad things and I hoped that all that was worked out... The email I got in response was really nasty, basically saying "we don't need your business if you don't trust us" I still have the emails if anyone wants to see...
I've heard stories, seen pics, and talked to people on 4 different web boards who have gotten broken engines from Osaka. Add quite a few more to that who never got their orders at all! I hear that they worked through their problems, but I still wouldn't trust it. They're located in Canada, so they're not bound by any US laws. Sueing would be very hard for US citizens... The only people I would think would be safe buying from them are Canadians who can go to their warehouse and pick out their own engine. The ONLY people I have talked to who have had a good experience with them are those who did just that.

Wow! I've personally never heard any complaints but you're definitely right on the whole legal issues and maybe they, at one point int time, used that to their advantage and screwed over some people. I had a good experience with my order and I'm glad cause I have heard some horror stories. There was 2 feet of snow on the ground and the freight truck still drove into the neighborhood and dropped the freight motor off right at the shop. The shipping from CA to VA only cost about $120 which I've heard people pay up to $400 or 500 to have a motor shipped that far. I had the TPS sensor broken and the knock sensor broken, but I picked up some replacements off Ebay for dirt cheap so it was no big deal. The motor was in almost new condition and I'll post up some pics in a little while to show you guys how clean the inside of the motor looked when I got it. It had damn near perfect compression and I'd swear it had a lot less than 10,000mi on it when I got it. Good deals are out there. I got lucky cause I couldn't insoect the motor firsthand before I bought it, but they did include a 90 day warranty that it would run and they had compression and leakdown tested it before it was shipped. I spoke with the guys at Streetdragz and I felt pretty comfortable with the whole thing. Bottom line, if you don't feel comfortable about it 100% and don't feel confident that you're getting a straight motor, then don't do it. Save yourself the time, money and energy.

But my experience with Mark was just fine. Got my JDM H22a in about 7-9 months. Didn't look like the pics put not a big deal. Still haven't dropped it yet though.

I heard some bad shit about osaka to dont order from them i heard they were bad news. As for me I ordered my engine from Hmotoronline.com. Steve was a good guy and still is dont get me wrong but I went through hell just for the swap some dickheads put my engine in and all hell broke loose i had idleing problems changing everything settin up the timing, and all it really was,was the computer. Now its running strong not to be rude and all but when I told steve about my situation it seemed to me like he was totally another different person somewhat dodgey like he didnt wanna be bothered until I told him about my situation. But anyway I didnt like the fact that I told him my car was a 5-speed and he gave me a automatic computer that was changed over into a 5-speed that was a very bad thing, car ran like shit for a good 4 weeks. just pure hell other than that engine runs good wanting to get 200 and some change to the wheels :boink: :nono: :idiots: :idiots: :idiots:

I never called about my paperwork, so I don't know what's happening there... Still, I'd go with Steve over anyone else...

Got mine from Unitex Trading company. They don't have a website and dont ship abroad so they are only good for those interested in doing swaps who live in the Houston area. Pretty good prices though. I got an F20A SOHC motor and tranny for $900 even. Good engine too. They took off the oil cap in front of me to show how clean the valvetrain was. There wasn't one bit of carbon buildup. They do all the japanese makes although they say the higher end motors like the H22, SR20DET etc are a bit hard to come by.

hmotorsonline.com H22 manual longblock mated with a H22 LSD automatic tranny. 1950 for everything shipped, minus the TCU WHICH YOU NEED WHEN YOU KEEP IT AUTOMATIC. Otherwise, your going to be dissapointed when it shifts out at 5 grand. I would highly reccomend these guys. Talk to Steve, and tell him what your putting it into, and he'll hook you up.

Yup. Autos are NOT what is in demand. When people upgrade to a more powerful engine, they usually want a manual transmission. Automatic is just not as fun! Not to say that an automatic car can't be made into a beast...

i don't really like to order stuff because once u have a problem with the sellers then u are for a long run.
so my question is.
is there any shop that sells H22 in the PA or New Jersy or New york area?????
deevergote.
06-04-2004, 02:25 AM
Any shop in NJ, PA or elsewhere that sells swaps will most likely be ordering them from one of the sources you could go to directly. They can have the same problems that you would have, but you would be introducing a third party into the mix.
Honestly, dealing with a reputable distributor (like HMO) is probably your best choice. True, addressing problems with a company located on the other side of the country could be a hassle, but if you go with one that frequently ships motors, and has procedures set to handle problems (as HMO does) it won't be as much of a hassle as you think.

I got my H22 from Japanmotorimport.com. They have good prices. $2200 for a JDM H22 w/ LSD. However I had to ship to Hawaii which was another $900. Their customer service was pretty good but I recieved broken sensors (including TPS) and stuff upon arrival. It took almost a month to get here and all I got was a H22 in okay condistion with broken sensors. I requested new sensors but I doubt I'll ever get em. So overall I give JMI an 8/10. They're not perfect.
I did th swap myself. Took 10 days. Runs good and pulls pretty hard.

It seems like quite a hassle to get a decent H22. From what everyone has said, Steve and his products don't seem that great (wrong computer, Sparkle what was your ordeal?), yet you all appear to be vouching for him. So the engines were tight? No leaks, spot on C/R, LSD if you ordered? Can you specify that you want the JDM 10.6:1 engine or do you get what's available? If you order an engine and sensors are broken, do they cover that? I'm curious about the condition of JDM engines because in the Japanese videos they beat their cars pretty bad. And knowing that I wouldn't have the same car very long (how long before they scrap them?) I would definitely be a little harder on it. Does anyone have/had an H22 and it was garbage.....flakes in the pan....CompRatio way off....anything like that?
Sorry for the scrutinizing post;)
Also, does anyone know if there is any sites that still sell the whole front clips?

I had the same experience with HMO... Not a single problem, aside from a broken sensor (which happens in shipping... and Steve replaces em for free).
Mistakes DO happen, but I know that Steve does his best to correct any mistakes made. He actually cares about customer service. When my motor came in, my mechanic called me and said "dude, they gave you a brand new motor!" I know people who have gone elsewhere and had luck, but HMO seems the most consistent in sending out quality stuff. Worth the slightly higher cost, IMO. Also, h22sparkle had no trouble with his motor, I believe... It was the dumbass booger that put it in for him.
The only place I know of that has consistently sent garbage has been Osaka JDM Motors (www.osakajdmmotors.com). They've been known to send motors with stripped cam gears, bent valves, and in one case I've seen, a hole in the block!

I can vouch for HMO for being one excellent place for buyin my motor and alot of people on this bord reccomend him aswell. My motor was and still is perfect But i had a dumbass who helped me put it in. I should have done it all by myself but we all live and learn. But i ended up doin it by myself in the end.
Sure steve gave me a ecu noones perfect but after i told him hey its messed up take the ecu back he gave me one without any hassle or excuses with a tracking number to boot i was well on my way. I didnt order a lsd from steve on HMO i brought one on my own he told me he didnt have anymore plus i wanted an aftermarket one quaife which was the way to go. I tested m y motor my c/r was up to date its strong runnin 235 across the board so im not stressin it.
Remember jdm motors are used and usually people like HMO that sell them inspect them before they buy em cause how would they want to sell someone a fucked up motor. BUt i warn you beware of osaka. I was once hypnotized into buying from them once i found out how cheap they were sellin their engines wrong idea ive seen the horror stories if you arent there to pick the engine up and visiually inspectin it I hear they hand out some garbage ass motors and never return your calls. I asure you if anything is wrong with the motor you buy from HMO steve will replace it He knows his customers are important to him , hell fix and try to help you with any problems you may come accross hell even diagnose your problem with you over the phone shit maybe down the line im thinkin of doin another swap for my girls car.

Well a local shop had done an jdm h22a swap into an integra and 3 weeks later the kid got t-boned at an intersection:( so they had one on hand w/tranny. it cost me 2600 for the 1995 JDM H22A w/tranny and ecu. and they threw it in for another 800 bucks. (No time or space to do it myself) so basically i dropped my car off and 3 days later and 3400 bucks i drove it home h22 powered.:D pretty good deal if you ask me. and the thing has held up to well over 10 bottles of the 75 shot and constant beating for 15k miles.

might as well reply to this thread... i've had my motor long enough now anyways.
well i bought my motor from Noyan USA located in Virginia. the motor runs great and all... but i think the transmission is having some problems... but not 100% sure yet. other than that possibility, their service is good and prices are great. i bought my h22a w/ automatic transmission for 1,395 shipped. i don't know if they're still selling for this price or not, but that's what i bought it for. also, the h22s with manual transmission are a few hundred dollars more.
my motor was shipped on a pallet, strapped down and wrapped up in shrink wrap nice and tight - no shipping damage. when the motor came, it had the usual broken throttle position sensor and a few other parts that needed replaced... PCV, distributor cap.... and it was missing the fast idle valve all together. but nothing too major.
overall, i would reccomend Noyan to any other honda owner looking to swap out motors.

Also for first time buyers.
YOU NEED TO, inspect the motor with in the hour it shows up at your house or shop. If you see anything major broken, like valve cover or something. You need to report it, The place you buy it from, but get pist if you call back a month later and tell them what you found, and they prob wont help you. If you see anything suspicious at all, dont hesitate to call them.

Contact them and ask about paperwork, startup warranty, and what parts are included with the swap. Also, ask which parts are covered under whatever warranty they offer. Some places will give a great sounding warranty, but when you read the fine print it's only for certain parts, or only if the engine was installed by a pro... or into a car that it belongs in...
Either way, good luck!

Same place/motor for me too. Service is good, if you can understand them...shipping is decent. I received mine with broken dizzy cap, 7-8 broken sensors, dented oil pan, bent p/s line, water in the spark plug holes, cams out of time, etc....
but it has all been taken care of now with a little time a money.

swap a F22B and got it from makoto_autoparts off of ebay. motor cost 600 after shipping and arrive in 3 days after payment was recieve. their shipping procedure suck  :thumbsdwn it broke distributer, tps sensor, but motor was very clean and fresh   . it looked like the motor barely have many miles on it when i took everything apart. swap was done at my brother's gf's house and it was only me and my brother that did the swap. so far motor is running good, i've put 8000 miles on it already in 5 months and it's still running strong. :bouncy:

Damn it looks like I got one of the better deals. $900 for a totalled prelude they came to my work. The only thing salvagable was the drivetrain, springs, and seats. I got all but the seats. Oh and it had a DC header already on it.

Has anyone bought an engine from passwordjdm.com? I'm looking at their engines and they sell the H22 engine+tranny+lsd+all the other stuff shipped for $2,875. Is it really worth it to get the lsd because it's like $500 cheaper without it. Has anyone had experience with this vendor?

www.hmotorsonline.com
from what i have heard are the best, and no one has had a problem with them. i would definately check though if they have international shipping for you.
my swap (F20A DOHC) came from J-Hot out of Atlanta, GA. the h22's they usually carry are high mileage though.

www.hmotorsonline.com is the ONLY place I would ever trust. That won't change.
Other than that, finding one locally (if possible) is always an option. The best place to find an H22 is in a Prelude or an Accord SiR / Euro R. :D

hey whats up everyone, well my story is kinda weird, when i was stationed in california(pendleton) i had a friend that had a very nice civic, i told him that i wanted to do the h22 swap for my cb he suggested the company that works on his car sportcarmotion, at first i wasnt sure but i was about to get out of the military and i didnt want to come home with my car and the same engine, i got the h22a longblock for 2200, they actually did a very good job, i wish i would have know about this site back in the day otherwise i prob. would have done the swap myself. the only bad thing about this company is that i was their first cb project, they specialize mostly in integras and civics
