Quick q's:
-What do I need to put the mid in the door spacer-wise? Can I use other materials besides plastic?
-Where can I put a crossover?
-Is there anyway I can put a surface mount tweeter on the dash without cutting it open? Or is the A-pillar the only place to cleanly put tweeters?

I don't really care about the last one, as it's more of a thing to keep people from asking me why I have exposed wire in my car. The first two are pretty key though, as right now the only places I can even fathom putting them are under the front seats, somewhere under the dash, or in the glovebox. Then again, I can make a crossover without the board, and just kind of tape all the pieces up, which is probably what I'll wind up doing. The most reasonable prices I've seen for 2-way passives is $20 EACH, while the inductors and capacitors go for like $3 a pop at most. I only need 4 pieces for the front, hmmm...

Basically my main concerns are window tracks and keeping the tweeters as far from me as possible, so I might even mount them on the floor. What have other people done for their front component setups?

Why are my threads always so long?

i have installed infinity kappas components in many cars. really i found that mounting the xover with a velcrow works...but nothing on the bottom of the door...at least 5 inches so that water wont get to it.

dpending on the speaker, u may need a spacer and u may not...washers are your friend.

mounting, usually i like it in the door flush mount, but since u dotn want it i think u can hide it or get away with it being in the speaker grill attached to the door...yo uknow, that area where the speaker lies...mount it in there...iono try things...

put the tweet in the vent lolz..

In the door? Is there room with all the window and door lock stuff? And where exactly do you usually put the xover?

I've decided I'm either gonna put the tweeters in the A-pillar or more preferably/likely on the dash behind the window vents if I get the surface mounts. I just hope the dash doesn't mess up my side's imaging.

Also, what lowpass freq. should I go for for the two 6.5's in the back? I'm not even sure I want to have one as it would prob. be weird for back seat passengers to have all the sound coming all from the front...I might just leave them and put some tweeters on the b-pillar, and make some kind of guard to keep them from interfering with the front's sound. However I also want/need more bass, so would lowpassing the rears make them more bass efficient? I'm pretty sure the bass frequencies use most if not basically all of the power anyway right?

You can also use a hard pressed wood for a spacer. As far as the x-over goes, basically just make it fit somewhere. Like was stated earlier, not at the bottom of the door, as far as mounting the cross over in where the speaker is, I dont know if Iwould do that. Then you are taking up a little air space, seems like it may rattle, and say a wire comes out or something silly, you need to not only take the panel off, but the speaker as well. I put my x-over in the middle of the door, more towards the dash. Here is a pic of my tweet in the door as well. http://www.cis.ysu.edu/~ewilson/polk.jpg

I put the 6.5s from my house in the back w/an adapter, and it's not sounding good. I'm guessing the speaker's not meant for the almost free-air setup, so I have to pick up a pair of 6x9 baffles tomorrow. That should alleviate the problem, as well as give me the tight bass I've been looking for. I wish they were bigger though, as I'm def. gonna lose some low-end...oh well...

As for the front, I'm just gonna have someone hook it all up, since I got the hookup. Will it sound bad if I don't get a crossover? The tweets come with a built-in 6db 2.5k I believe, and the woofers I have don't have anything. Would it sound 'nasal' if I just left it alone? I'm prob. gonna get an eq soon anyway, as I just got a free old-school Sherwood amp. I wonder if its quality...

It wont sound bad, but doing a seperate tweet or a Qlogic kick panel is one of the best ways to raise sound stage. As far as the sherwood amp it doesnt need to be 500 watts! Mids and highs dont take nothing to amp. Not Like a woofer. I have always heard a good component set would always have a set of x- overs. I believed this for a while until audiobahn came out with some decent 6.5's and they have no-over.

The Sherwood is a 45x4 amp I think...it says 180W on the cover. I'm really hoping that is RMS power and not peak though, as it's pretty much a waste if its peak. Then again it might be underrated...

All I know is that the Bose system in my Maxima had serious bump for 200W peak. I'm hoping with this amp I'll have comparable low end bass, rather than depending solely on the sub.

Steve- did you need a spacer though?

UPDATE...I got my mids today, so basically all I need is the fuse for the amp and I'm good to go. I have Audiobahn AT61 tweeters for the highs...I'm prob. just gonna have someone install everything though.

I had a KLH (yeah I know *bleech*) home sub lying around, so I got that fixed and threw it in the trunk with the rear lines in for the inputs, and a 350W DC->AC converter. Surprisingly it does the job well. Don't ask about SQ, because it's not there...it sounds kinda like it's resonating at about 60-70, but it goes down to maybe 30 before really dying. In any case, it hits nicely, and will def. feed my appetite for bass until I get money for the real deal. I just have to get all the stuff I have put in, since the stockers/HU amps just can't play cleanly at the volumes I like. I'll keep you posted though...

hey man, i got the Q logic kick panels and made a mount for my MB Quart crossovers out of wood covered in carpet to fit in the old speaker locations. heres a pic that im sure everyone is tired of seeing lol

i dont have any problems with water or anything with the crossovers

and please ignore the sony's in the kick panels. if/ when you first get kick panels i sugesst put some crappy speakers in there until your feet and your passengers get used to them cuz i guarantee you WILL kick the shit out of them (hence my lack of mids and tweeters right now :idiots: ) sound imaging with the kickpanels is AMAZING though, so much better than door mounted.
