Hey everyone, I am looking to get some 17's and i was wondering if this tire size was ok. 205/40r-17. Is that size a nice tire and will it be somewhat comfortable or atleast as comforatable as stock? Also i have heard that getting 225/50's were better because my roads suck. Ist his true. Also I would like to get the 205's becasue they come with the package and it costs an extra 200 bucks to get the other ones. Tell me which ones you would suggest. ONE more question is that will the 205/40r-17's fit my 93 accord? I heard they will but not sure someone told me they were too small. Thanks for all the help.

All the tires Ive had on my 17"s were 205/40, dont get 225/50, its too wide and overall height is too much. If you dont get 205/40 go with 215/45. But I beleive 205/40 will get you closest to the overall stock height. Either size will fit your car, but I would go with the 205/40 because there closer to stock size, and look better than the thicker 50s, and there cheaper.

205/40 is correct. It gives you a good aspect ratio..let's look at the math..
195/60/15. Calculated out that's a tire height of :
(195*.60*2)/25.4+15 = 24.21inches
The new tire you're looking at has a height of:
(205*.40*2)/25.4+17 = 23.45inches
That means the overall height of the tire is actually shorter than the stock tire. Thus your car will be lowered by half of the difference (since half of the height is above the hub and half is below it). Thus your car will actually lower by .38". Likely it will amount to an actual change in height of nothing because this does not calculate in side-wall flex or tire pressure changes. This is also a calculated height assuming that the tires are fitted to the proper rims and a bunch of other things.

wrong wrong wrong
205/45/17 is perfect size tire for our accords. proof:

i personally run 215/45/17 tho cause 205/45/17 is an odd size that isnt offered much.
and u call yourself a specialist at TIRES PLUS??? :lol:205/40 is correct. It gives you a good aspect ratio..let's look at the math..

HAHAHA, well i am going to stick with 205/40's because that is the most common 17 inch tire and it is cheaper, I was just wondering if the ride would be ok and that they would fit ok on our accords.
i just bought myself some 17" and im in the market for tires, but my town is horrid, potholes hills you name it.. its on our shitty roads, theyre the worst ever.. what should i get for bad roads? im afraid to put 205/40/17 on because i feel theyre too thin and may break with the massive pennsylvania potholes. anyone got input?

WELL. Everyone change of plans, I am going with some 18's i am getting them ata n incredible price. They come with Falken 215/35/18. Is this a decent size? No rubbbing etc, and also my roads are horrendous like was mentioned earlier I am in New Mexico. Please let me know if there will be any rubbing, comfortable ride?, and if a good overall size. They are Rota Velox 18's. Thanks for any extra input. P.S. I am not lowered any?

thats risky dude, especially with 35 series tires.. on rough roads
even though your not lowered any, you will still definitely feel the road(*as in every bump, pothole, crater)
I dont believe theres anything wrong with 18's just that they are gonna give you more reaction to the roads surfaces.
by the way wats the price they r givin ya and if u want a lil drop, view my sig.:boink:

No, just get the 215/35 theres the most common and probably one of the cheapest 18" tires. The tires will not blow from just hitting common potholes, but you could warp the rim, so just be careful where you drive.

Ok well i just got back from the tire shop and i asked them. Because i need to replace 1 tire out of all 4 . the 3 are falken 215/35/18 and the other one i need to replace. The only one the tire place has are Kelly Chargers. They have a 215/35/18 but only that one Kelly and it is 168$$. Is this a decent replacement for the other 3 Falkens? Also is that a decent price?

Thats not cheap for 215/35s! Anything over $110 is too high. I can get Kumho for about $55 and Bf Good for $85. Search some of the wheels websites and you can find a good deal on some tires.

I cant give you a number unlesss you live near me, I get my tires from my buddy who works at an autocross store, so I get his discount, havent ever really searched much in the net but heres a few:
Kumho ECSTA Supra 712-$87: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Kumho&tireModel=ECSTA+Supra+712&vehicleSearch=false&partnum=135WR8ES712&fromCompare1=yes
or Yokohama Parada Spec-2-$136 ...I know those are the best prices, but 87 isnt that bad. Im sure you can find someone around you that can get deals on tires. It might be cheaper just to find on Falken than get 2 or 4 or another brand.

Is it ok to have the 3 falkens and then get a different brand on the front? Is that kumho ok to match with the 3 others and is it a decend competitor or equal quality i guess is what im tryin to say.

Oh well that deal fell through. Are Sportline Wheels any good. I really like the look of them. Also they come with Toyo Proxes. These any good?
Swifty1638

Toyo proxes are very good. I personally love them. I wanna switch back to them. The only reason I got the kuhmos are cause my car came with them. I love them though. I get to "test" batches of tires we get every soo often, and write up a report on them , based on what I found. That way, the customers get to see what they are really like. If ya want another good tire get bridgestone potenzas..good price, you can't beat. Also, for a cheaper tire, dayton hr's are good.

they are ok..i personally like the simpler stuff..motegi mr7 ( everyone has these thigns!) or my rims, or volk racing rims..I like 6 spoke.clean, elligant, and look super light, even if they aren't..just my opinion. Those are not bad at all, just not my cup of tea..

just to let ya know if ya go with 17s the corect tire size for our car is 215/40/17 these are what ya need for the speedo to be as close as posible also for the weight of our cars. you can also go with 205/45/17 but the other tires look better. ive had 215/40/17 sumitomo htr+ on my 17 they where all season a where a high quality tire and they where only 85 buck from tirerack
