I have overly tight valves on my H22A1 it was dropping the compression of one cylinder by about 110 psi. I would definitely do a valve adjustment first.

Your master cylinder for the clutch needs to be replaced. The internal seals have failed and it's starting to leak. Eventually it will leave you with a non functional pedal.

Part of the equation is how far the throttle body is open. If you have it wide open it will shift later than if your driving like a grandma.

Honestly even with 7.5 wheels sitting on asphalt no power steering really isn't that bad. A full manual conversion where there is no pressure build up in the system, is nothing like a failed pump...

You lift the little cover up and on the bottom(?) and take the screws out. It's been awhile since I've removed it but there are screws. Maybe 8 of them across the whole window.
