Hello Everyone! I'm here with some updates (about me and the forum).

    Hi guys (and gals)

Sorry I haven't been around very much lately. Life has been hectic, and my computer has been down for quite a while. For the last year or so, pretty much everything I've been doing on here has been on my phone... which, as you all know, is less than ideal!

So, personal updates, for those that care to read:
After finishing up my MBA last year, I got a job with Burlington. Formerly Burlington Coat Factory. We dropped the whole Coat Factory thing because we're "more than just coats"... of course, I started in the coats department. I'm looking to rise through the ranks in the merchandise planning department. So far, so good. The company is great. The only downside is that my commute is roughly an hour each way.

My wife and I just bought a new house in August. Same town as the old house, which made moving fairly easy. In fact, we're still not out of the old house yet!
The new place is a foreclosure, so we're fixing it up as we go along.
The great thing is that the new place is 2,100 square feet, whereas my old place was only 865. HUGE difference! Also, it has a 2 car garage
Figures, now that my CB has been destroyed, I finally get a garage...

Right now, my designated computer room isn't wired to hook my computer up... so getting online at home is still a phone-only affair. That is going to be remedied as soon as possible.

    Now for the site updates:
Once my computer is up and running, and my schedule is a little more manageable (I'm hoping shortly after the new year) I have plans for the site.

    1) New Software.
As much as I've resisted it in the past, I think we can't deny the need for a software update. I'm going to look into upgrading to the newest version of vBulletin. Hopefully migrating our ancient database won't be an issue. I'll be sure that we get a 100% working backup in place in case we need to revert!
In the new update, I intend to set things up for better browsing and posting using a smartphone. I know it'll never be ideal, but seeing as most people use phones for internet browsing, we should probably be as accessible as possible. With luck, we’ll be able to increase traffic a bit as well!

    2) Image hosting.
I THINK we’ll be able to host images on our (Pandemic’s) server. We’ll see how it goes. I need to see how such hosting will be done in the newest version of vBulletin. Another member also offered the use of his private server, which would be very helpful… but I’m always wary of wholly relying on someone else. Pandemic has proven reliable, but CD5tuner met its demise due to issues stemming from the person that was doing me a favor by hosting it.
If we can’t easily post images from within the vBulletin software, then I’m going to see what I can do about getting an image uploader created. That way, images can be uploaded to our private hosting location just as they would be to a proper image host. The only catch would be ensuring it was used ONLY for posting on this site, and not abused. I’d trust our core members to use it appropriately, but I can’t speak for new members… or people that catch wind of “free image hosting” that sign up solely for that purpose.

    3) Beginner Forums.
Our Beginner Forum setup has done a great job of protecting the rest of the site from spammers and scammers over the years. However, the 30 post limit has perhaps run its course. I don’t want to completely eliminate the beginner forums, but I think it may be time to knock that post requirement down significantly. I’m fairly certain the current post limit has likely kept out more potential members than it has scammers and spammers (ok, maybe not spammers… I banned 25+ usernames yesterday alone!)

    4) New moderator!
This isn’t terribly new, but I realize I never announced it. HappyGilmore has been made a moderator. There isn’t a whole lot of moderating to do these days, but we’ve got a fresh face among us.

    So that’s pretty much it.

Congrats on the new house/life! Well, maybe not completely new life but definitely a serious change.

You guys always do! There's not a whole lot to do around here, aside from the occasional spam cleanup (to which members always alert me... lately, before I find it myself!)

I'd like to make it easier to share pictures, as well as provide a more mobile-friendly environment. Getting some new enthusiasts here would be nice, as many of us are either a) long without a CB7, and/or b) we've explored every avenue we can possibly think of in terms of modification, restoration, or maintenance of the CB7. Some new blood may introduce some new ideas... or at least give us the opportunity to share our old ideas again!

I like the idea of getting rid of the 30 post rule as it is kind of dated now that we are a niche community. Congrats Gilmore on the mod promotion. Deev congrats on the new house. Now that you have a garage I expect to see a cb in your future or more updates on the Miata.

10/10 ideas. Congratulations on your accomplishments, man! I hope to be a big kid like you in the near future.

One car garage or two? Two means one for the Miata, and the other side for parts hoarding.

I want a garage so damn bad! I’m locked in my house for a few years, after that, I’m renting it & buying a house with a garage.

I feel like rental properties are THE way to make easy money now a days. You planning on renting the old place to cover bills on the new one? Food for thought.

I’ve already used the garage to do the brakes on my hybrid. Miata needs little, but it’s so small it’s easy to work on in the garage! The Cadillac will be getting some new front shocks. I love that I don’t have to wrap up a project in a day anymore!

I will admit, I do miss driving a CB terribly. Maybe someday! Right now, I’ve got plans... plans that involve getting rid of everything I own and getting something much different.

Two car garage. Detached. The original plan was two car attached with room for another two car detached to be built. Sadly, we missed that mark... but the two car detached is still nice!

I thought about renting out the old place, but I’m terrified of all the responsibility that comes with being a landlord. My mother in law has half a dozen properties in Charlottesville, and I get to see how busy they keep her every time we visit!

I was like you and couldn't wait to get my two car garage. I housed my car in there a lot right after I moved in, but then the damn thing started filling up with "house" stuff. Resist the urge to throw everything in the garage!

Dude, two car detached is even better. You get to get away completely while relieving stress wrenching. Get a decent window AC unit/space heater & you’re set.

My house went up 8k in the last 7 months, so I might sell out right. I don’t know yet to be honest. I’m here for 3 years, so if I can sell for more than I paid, hell yeah I’m taking the cash and putting that towards the future. I guess it’s on what makes sense at the time. Atlanta is seeing some ridiculous gentrification lately so who knows..

When I moved into my house there was no door between the attached garage and house. It was the worst of both world.

Had to do some serious re-engineering of the garage roof structure but got a door in.

Who thought that was a good idea??

So, during your reengineering, did you install a lift? Because, while you're in there...

Congrats on the new house! Sounds like a very rewarding purchase.

The future of the forum sounds exciting. Can't wait for 2019.

That is a question that was never asked once when the add-on was put in. The header for the wall was set in a way that it was 5'-10" from the floor in the family room that was attached to the garage.

I didn't put in a lift as I couldn't justify the cost and didn't have the garage door setup for it to work. Oddly enough, I have a pit in the garage, although I would have no reason or interest to actually do anything with it. I did buy some air tools though, so at least that makes things easy for me.
