SRS->NON SRS Steering Wheel Conversion
* DO THIS ONLY IF YOU FEEL COMPETENT ENOUGH * Im not responsible for you jacking up your car. I have a 93 Ex and this worked for me. This is probably illegal to remove OEM installed SRS equipment but honestly i see it no differently than turning off the passenger air bag or putting the airbag disabler with the oem wheel. sorry but form>function in this case and many more.
This mostly applies to 9293 USDM CB7's.
Why would u want to do this?? I have a JDM Leather 4G Prelude wheel i want to put on and i want to retain my horn and C/C functions WITHOUT The SRS light and WITHOUT just pulling my cluster light. Wiper and headlight stalks are same distance from the non srs wheel because i only used the clock wheel from the 9091 and not the entire hub.
Parts Needed:
9091 Wheel Clock with 3 screws
9091 Wire harness from Clock wheel to interior wire harness.
9293 SRS Disable Plug
9293 Male SRS Plug Pigtail
NON SRS wheel
Tools Needed:
Small Flat Head Screw Driver
Small Philips Screw Driver
T-30 Torques Bit
19mm Socket w/ extension
Medium Philips Screw Driver
Wire Cutters or Knife
Solder Gun
Shrink Wrap
Remove Your SRS Wheel:
- REMOVAL OF Steering Column cover is by 5-6 Medium Philips screws under the Wheel Column. USE EVEN PRESSURE WHEN REMOVING OR THEY WILL STRIP
-Look on the side of the wheel and pop of the cosmetic caps which cover screws.
-On the left is only one Torques Screw.
-On the right is one Torques Screw and 2 screws on the C/C panel.
-Remove The C/C pannel
-Remove the Airbag
-Rotate the Wheel to the driver door until it locks ( youll hear a click )
-Remove the 19mm Nut in the Center of the wheel
-Unplug everything
-3 philips screws hold on the ABS clock wheel. remove them and remove the ABS Clock wheel.
- Unplug the yellow SRS connector under the steering column
Find this connector in a hidden panel under your SRS steering wheel. It should be held on by 2 screws. If its not there then your previous owner lost it.
Take the connector apart and get the metal out of it. Save it for later
Take the Male end of the SRS connector and cut it in half save the left half of the Connector like this
Cut the other end which goes to the SRS Clock wheel.
Expose the metal on the 3 connectors.
Solder them in this order
Front left to right on the female SRS plug is
1 HORN ( Blue RED ) 2 Resume ACCEL ( Green BLACK 0 ) 3 C/C Set ( Green RED )
The last three are covered by that red connector that you took apart. This oem clip disables the SRS Light the proper way.
Assembly:
Take the Non SRS clock wheel and the 9293 Hub has provisions for 3 screws for the non SRS clock wheel ( There is no need to change out the white things )
Attach your conversion harness to the Female SRS connector
Line up your Non SRS wheel on the Column ( Trial and Error to get it perfectly strait )
Put your 19mm Bolt Back and tighten it real good as long as you know its strait.
Go test your Horn and C/C
Put your cosmetic cap on to cover the bolt.
