ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    cel occasionally coming on

as you may know from my previous post i was having map sensor issue (cel code 5). well, i went and took the car to get a vacuum pressure test and nothing was wrong. actually the cel hasnt been on at all in the past 1.5 months.

so i go to start it to hit my friend's place today and on it comes. it seems to come on occasionally which makes trying to pull a code difficult. it does run a little rough, like it did the last time it came on.

should i go ahead and change the map sensor? anything else that may be causing this? haven't reset the ecu and will try that and let you know what's up.

also was told that honda discontinued this part. should i try aftermarket? if so, what brands do you recommend? go used?

you can still get the code eventhough the cel is not on anymore. should be stored in the ecu. i would read that first and go from there. later.

ok so i managed to pull it and it is a code 5. now i know there;'s some tests that need to be done with a wiring harness. i dont have the equipment. can i just replace the map sensor and i'd be ok?

if cel 5 is telling you that your map sensor is bad, then yes, replacing it with a good one should fix the problem. be sure to reset the ecu after you replace it.

That's horrible advice. Especially in these hard times.
What if its a connector issue?
Just try to find someone with a dvom or even better an oscope. And pull a wiring diagram for the sensor.

youre right, telling someone to replace a part that the ecu is reporting as faulty is horrible advice. connectors go bad all the time in these cars (that is actually sarcasm... ive seen many failed map sensors, never a failed connector for the map sensor)
