ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    People who have done headgaskets

How long did it take you?
Looking at it (head bolts) when I was doing spark plug seals, it seemed like it would be pretty easy. Solid day of work if you have all the parts and nothing went wrong. Maybe a weekend or a week if the head had to get milled.
I'm asking because my friend did a headgasket on an E30 and it took him a month. I'd like to show him it's much easier to do it on an Accord.

I did one on my civic with a d15b7 it took about 5 hours. Scraping the old gasket material was time consuming.

Removing the old head only takes about an hour or so, I've done 2 in my life. Most time consuming part is removing all the connections and sensors under the Dizzy and behind and under the intake manifold. Be sure you get all of them. Some parts are old so plan on breaking a few things...I had to replace that U-shaped hose behind the head b/c it developed a crack as I removed the clamp and started tugging on it. This was on the 91 LX coupe I just sold

The machine shop will probably take 2 to 3 days....On my original F22A6 on my Seattle Silver coupe, it took me about a week for the job, since it was my first HG job...thats with all the parts on hand and shipped to me already. I had to go to the Honda dealer for one hose..that U shaped hose with Owequitit b/c it sprung a leak when we were clamping it down.

Its not a difficult job though...I've got the Helms manual PDFs if you need them.....Actually if you search through my threads about a HG I posted back in Jun 08' someone posted the links for them. Thats what I used to do it and it was very straightforward.

while an experienced person (with stocked spare parts) can do it in a day, i think your estimates are spot-on. leave the intake manifold attached to the head, and theres not a heck of a lot of stuff to disconnect.

I've done many hondas, and it is very possible to get the work done in a day. Obviously besides machining, I was able to bring it to a buddies shop to have the most recent one done.

I usually set a time line of about 5-7 days mainly because of the machine shop's schedule. The one I go to can get very busy. If minimal downtime is important, I go and get a good head from the wrecker for $25, disassemble it (valves/springs still intact), and send it out to the shop before the car even gets towed to me. There, they vacuum test it first, clean it, and resurface it which costs roughly $50 including taxes and environment fees or whatever it is they charge.

Actual work time (re and re) on the car was probably 2 full days my first time. Since I've done so many now, if I had everything ready including a redone head, starting in the am I'd have it done by night for sure.

Once the car gets to me, I usually remove the head with the intake manifold still in the car. I've done 6 CB headgaskets (all different cars lol) now and tried various methods but for me, leaving the intake manifold seems to be the fastest as I don't have to worry about disconnecting all the vacuum lines, harness plugs, etc.

If your real familiar with hondas the entire topend can come off with in 30-45mins.Napa does my resurfacing $45 bux can take up to a day for the turn around or a few hours. As far as actual work i can get one done in less than 2hours an have it back running like it supposed to.I find it much easier to just take the complete topend off rather than piece by piece this way you want have to replace the intake gasket.Im a big ol boy so i have no troubles getting it all off at once, but do becareful you might want a friend or someone to help because you do not want to drop it.I always Replace the timing belt,Water pump, and Thermo stat just to be safe aswell as a head gasket but thats a given.Only real issue i've ran into in the passed is the head studs some times they get seized up from years of use...best way to go around this is to let the engine get up to operating temp they should break lose easier. If not i use a home made breaker bar extension works well but gonna need to put some ass behind itAlso make sure they don't shave to much off i had that happen an timing was a bitch plus piston an valve contact luckly it dented the piston reliefs an did'nt crack a piston or bend a valve.Make sure the head has'nt been shaved/milled before thats were i messed up in rushing things on a dd i needed back.Hope this helps bud GL.

Took me about a good 7 hours, new headgasket and all. The one i had done at a shop didnt set, so it went out on the 25 min drive on the way home.

if the head is flat and you have all the parts than it can be done in about 4hr. not that heard really.
