Damn, an 8.9? I can only hope that everybody stays safe. Things go wrong with the world all the time, I don't think this should be linked to 2012 in any way, but things have seemed to be happening more often. I mean New Zealand had their quake not that long ago didn't they?

What time did this start?

I lived about 30km south of Sendai 9 months ago. Woke up this morning wondering why people were asking if I was ok.

It's a pretty sickening feeling right now. I had a lot of students and friends in that area. Had we stayed for three years rather than two, we'd be there right now.
