ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Speed Sensor Replacement for "S" light

Okay. I have a "S" light code which calls for a bad speed sensor. While I'm trying to take apart my engine to prep it for a engine removal, I get to the part where it says to "REMOVE SPEED SENSOR". It gives a one piece diagram like this, seemingly expecting you to remove both the external and the internal parts in one fowl swoop:

However, when I went to take the bolts off and pull the thing out, all I get was a top part with an electrical connector. So i'm sitting there thinking, what the heck, I guess my speed sensor was really bad if its coming out in two pieces.

Then I went on ebay and saw these speed sensors with only the external part like this one:

and so now I am wondering if I should replace both the external and internal parts with new parts; or, just do the much cheaper option and replace only the external speed sensor.

What do I do to fix this "S" light code? Do I get the entire VSS or just the electrical part?

when i replaced my speed sensor it was only that part with the electrical connector. after replacing it the light went out. Just be careful when removing it because there is a little metal key that will fall off and is easily lost.

Should I get a cheap one off ebay like this?

Btw, I have the key but I am not sure which way it goes in, right-side up or upside down? Maybe its only one way. I don't know.

i dont mean to thread jack but i was trying to remove one of the vss at a jy, not just the electrical part, got the top part off and unbolted the speed sensor mounting bolt but the VSS would not budge. is there a trick to getting it off? im throwing a code 17 and i can literally pick it up like its not attached to the transmission and i believe thats not supposed to me the case.

O.P. I just went through the same situation. The pic that you posted ( not the diagram ) is the correct part you need to replace.I didn't have my S light on tho. And just to add ,if you reach high speeds the ECU will shut the car off if the VSS is bad.
