ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

surging idle problem even after engine swap

Ok, this car has had an annoying surge since i bought it. at first it was only when cold then it would stop. i swapped out the motor and still have the same problem high idle and surges from 800/1000 to 1500/2000 depending on the temp. except now it does it sll the time at any temp. I have viewed every thread on this site thus far and have found no fix that works for me yet except the possibility that my map sensor hose is in the wrong location. which i will check out soon. The throttle body is the only thing that came off the old engine and the gasket looks good. I replaced the map (which smoothed out the idle) I checked for vacuum leaks with starting fluid. I cleaned the iacv, and checked reference volts - good and it ohmed out correctly. I adjusted the timing and the throttle cable. the idle screw seems to do nothing for me. I bled the coolant and topped it off. no cel's. the tps is reading .48 at idle and roughly 5 at w.o.t. the reference voltage at the connector is 5volts. I replaced the o2 sensor no change. the buddy that i bought it from has a homemade cold air intake on it with a k&n cone style filter that is clean. I dont know if there is something vital missing from the old air hose??? the EGR valve is about the only thing I haven't messed with so far... can it cause idle woes like this? the car performs great off idle to redline, no hesitation or anything but damn when you come to a stop it goes crazy.

Damn why cant there be more newbs like this. Love the detailed write up of what the problem is and what you have tried already... Keep it up..

Have you checked you Main Relay? Mine used to do the exact same thing. I was just like you I checked everything, or so I thought. I asked on here and found one thing that I didnt check... The Main Relay... Incase you arent familiar with it or where it is located I know there are multiple threads on here about the Main Relay and one of them is a very easy to follow DIY to Resolder it. All I had to do to fix mine was resolder it and that fixed it. Keep us posted, and welcome to the board. Later

      Great idea!

I had no idea it could cause a problem like that. Amazing that no one mentioned it before in any of the other "idle problem" threads unless I just missed it. I'll be reading that DIY right now and probably get on it right after work tomorrow. Thanks mike for getting me one more step closer to the solution to this oh, so annoying problem. I appreciate the compliment as well, and I will keep it up!

Not a problem man. I just know that having something wrong with my CB, no matter how big or small it may be, this is the best site out there to get fast answers. Keep us posted if that works or not. Later

          need more help.

Ok, tried to locate main relay and discovered that is is what I already replaced about 4 months ago thinking it was the "FUEL PUMP MAIN RELAY" as described in my Haynes manual. so I checked my spare, found cracked connections and soldered them as directed in the diy. I swapped it out with my new one just to be sure. no change. by the way, the surging also has been going on since I've owned the car, it has just gotten worse. I did re-read some stuff and I think I will try to clean the iacv even better just to be sure. Does anyone know if the egr could cause a problem like this? Any other suggestions would be appreciated. thanks so much! -BRYAN

try cleaning out your iavc to that might do it my car was doing the samething and i clean that out and it stop some of the reving up and down. I havent had time to look more into it yet becasue its cold out. I was told it could be your fast idle air valve that could need to be cleaned out too.

Yep if it does it cold FITV needs to be cranked down. When warm the IACV takes over. Cleaning it sometimes works and sometimes it doesnt. If it doesnt your only choice is to buy a new one. You said you got an intake. There is a vacuum line that runs from tb to a valve that opens up with the stock intake. That needs to be plugged up. But that would cause somewhat of a high idle but still wouldnt be a bad thing to check. But easy thing is FITV/IACV first. You swapeed the same motor back in?

                  egr

your egr system isn't going to affect this, to answer your questions. if you cleand the iacv and did all that, (nice writeup btw) then i dunno. but egr only engages at higher rpms. its an emissions thing.

i heard about how you can jb weld the two holes inside the throttle body and it should fix it for go but i would never do the cold start revving ever aagain.....
