    Unclear with coil wire-up (JDMh22a)

    Hey guys,
I'm in the mist of doing my engine swap and i'm unsure on how to wire up my coil. My accord wiring harness i'm using is for an external coil (f22a6 engine), and the new heart going in is a JDM h22 which is obviously an internal coil. I know in the sticky it tells you how to -

"Run the wire from the igniter that used to go to the internal coil out of the distributor and plug it into the blank spot on the distributor’s plug. "

but the thing is i'm going to be using a MSD ss coil which doesnt use the plug... It mentions this in the sticky as well -

"Cut the Plug that went to the stock coil off, splice the yellow and yellow/black wires together connect this wire to the ignition on of your aftermarket amp (red for MSD). Connect the Black/White wire to the Trigger input of your aftermarket amp (White on MSD). "

just unsure where that wire from the coil will go? i'm guessing run the wires from the ignitor like normal, then splice those power wires together... or should i connect those power wires on the positive, and the postive and negative form the ignitor as well on the msd coil...

Help me out quick! Cuz in a few hours i'll be working on the engine right after work. Thanks!!

"MSD Install For External Coil equipped cars
Cut the Plug that went to the stock coil off, splice the yellow and yellow/black
wires together, and you will also need to hookup the small red wire from the MSD
    to these 2 wires.

The green wire is the trigger, connect it to the White wire on the MSD box or the negative side of the coil if you are only adding a coil."

I'm curious if this helps to find my conclusion. If i go by this, what do i do with the internal coil wires... ahh!

man i thought i could help but after reading your second post i got confused. i'm just curious as to why you choose to go aftermarket external coil?

anyway bump for someone's answer to your problem!

An easy way is to purchase an h22 or h23 external dizzy. But as timmyotool said the second post kinda throws me off too. When i did my swap wiring up the dizzy for me was a bitch so my friend helped me out with it. For the MSD box i think what your talkin about is the positive and negative wire for the coil itself. Have you taken apart your dizzy and looked inside it to try to find the wires?

search for the "internal to external" coil conversion... somebody posted up a DIY that has links to the MSD website which explains the procedure... i believe this is it (from memory, having messed with it a while ago): take the cap/rotor/dust cover off the dizzy and youll see the internal coil at the bottom, remove it via the two screws. it had 2 wires going to it, black/yellow (+) and usually white (-, sometimes green)... these are the two that youre going to splice onto and extend out of the dizzy and connect to the + and - of the new msd coil... reassemble the dizzy, get a new rotor and external coil cap (i think MSD offers a new post for converting your internal coil cap to external?) then hook up the output of the new coil to the input on the new cap like a normal external coil setup. stick a 30amp fuse into the old square block plug that originally went to the stock external coil, this is a cheap way of "converting" an external coil wiring harness to work with an internal coil... same as cutting off the plug and splicing like you quoted, buts cleaner and undoable in the future.

now, their instructions say to cut the block plug off and splice the yellow and black/yellow together and connect that to the input of the MSD coil... thats the same as using the black/yellow wire from inside of the distributor, except its heavier gauge and can handle more power draw... so if you dont mind cutting off the block plug, splicing those wires together and connecting it to the new coil, thats recommended... but if you want to leave the plug intact and just use a fuse to "splice" the wires together, the black/yellow wire from inside the dizzy is also usable.

ended up keeping the internal coil for now. too many problems with the swap at the moment and just need to fix the bugs before any performance ideas... slowly working things out.

hey cpmike, in due time im gonna PM you some ideas to put in the h22 swap sticky. little things that people should make sure too look at or things i had to do to make sure it runs right.
