Chipped/programmable ECUs can do that. Otherwise, I don't think there's a way to do it.

The only way you are going to get a shift light is if you buy an aftermarket one or have it installed on a chipped ECU. Your best/cheapest bet is to get your ecu chipped.

Alright maybe ill just wait for boost to do it then because ill be swapping ecu obviously.
does the light come on during the end of the power band or after? |

You can program a CEL shift light to cut on at whatever rpm you want. You can set it to shift at 3k or 6.5k, its personal preference. But if you have your car tuned right, you would know where in the powerband it starts to loose horsepower.

Please spell correct words and use proper punctuation when you post to this board. You arent 6 years old. It doesnt bother me, but you dont want your shit jumped by other members. Some people take the whole thing super seriously. And butchering a cluster to insert a shift light isnt even worth the work. Why would you want to get rid of the actual CEL light anyway? Dont you want to know if your car is throwing a code? You can spend $60 on a P28 and probably pay $50 to have it chipped and mapped and you have launch control, shift light, vtec where you want it, etc.

even if you could wire it up to the CEL, i wouldnt tamper with that light. that light is very crutial for diagnostics...wire it up to a different light.

Just get an ECU with a chip and call it a day. You will save ALOT of headaches with wiring and such. It will literally take you 5 minutes to install a chipped ecu and hours to install a shift light in the battery light or something. Then you will have the option to get tuned without having the ecu chipped by the tuner.

Or, you could just know when to shift
![]() If your getting chipped, you should be getting tuned. Even if you tune it yourself, you should take it to a dyno somewhere and get the numbers. Those numbers will tell you everything.

yes, Its a perk of a chipped ecu. I have never heard of anyone using the battery light but im sure can probably be done. It doesn't hurt anything, the light just comes on wherever you set it. And about it being crutial light, i have never heard of a code only throwing right before redline, but even if you thought it was doing that, nothing is permanent, just take that off the ecu. Also how would it hurt? it would make the cel bulb burn out faster is the only thing I can think of. mine is set right before my RL and its actually quite nice when trying to keep a stock look. my RL comes up way to quick and this is a nice little just in case. Plus its kinda funny trying to explain to my 52 yr old dad that knows nothing about cars and he thinks its some like hi tech super custom new thing.
