Really? LIVERPOOL?

GO SPURS! I'm a Tottenham nutcase!

And my man crush on Gareth Bale is nothing unusual. It's perfectly natural!

DON'T JUDGE ME!

Ok, guess I'm in the minority of those that are actually commenting but I LOVE football. Gamedays signal a stoppage of everything and the commencing of a huge, campus wide party. The games themselves are incredible. Being able to watch these incredible athletes do their thing from the field is just a blast, not even mentioning the 100,000+ fans adding to the suspense.

Now, were I draw the line is how people react after the game. For me, I would prefer my team to win but I'm not going to be down if we don't. Honestly, I'd much rather see a close, exciting game that the team I'm pulling for losses than see a blowout by my team. I go to be entertained and leave happy no matter the outcome. That goes for any sport, I have fun watching just about anything that comes on be it football, soccer, golf, tennis, etc. Seeing people compete at a high level is fun.

I mean, shit, as a UT fan the most fun I've had at a football game was the Music City Bowl a month ago. It was pandemonium at the "end" of the game and having to come back out was wild. We lost the game in controversial fashion but it was a BLAST to be there.

Also, comparing rugby and football, in my opinion, isn't a fair comparison. The sports are way too different for you to call football players "pussies". I've been playing rugby now at UT for 4 years, so I'm not trying to play down how hard rugby is either. Hits in either sport are just so different. In rugby, you are forced to wrap up a person when you go into contact wereas in football you can fly in at full speed and just hit a person as hard as you want with your helmet.

I'm generally not a sports dude,

But I watched the second half of the Jets/Steelers game last night, and I can see how people get caught up in sports.

The energy of watching a game w/a crowd and identifying with a team is definitely enjoyable.

But I agree that it, or CB7s, or a Myspace rap career, or the club life, or anything unimportant shouldn't take precedence in someone's life.

I'm not saying Hondas are bad cars, just that because your preference does not agree with others does not make them wrong.

Well i don't, but reading peoples statuses sure gives you a good clue or two.

This thread wasn't really aimed at anyone on here, even if it sounds that way. When i say, "on here" i really just mean't the internet. Was too lazy to correct it lol.

I have nothing against organized sports. I played them as a kid. It's just annoying that if i want to go on to a website or into a restaurant(D&B) or anywhere for that matter, that people can't act like adults. They have to yell and scream and start fights and act like if their team loses they are going away for life....like take it down a notch its only a GAME.

I don't know, but these same people will be complaining about something next week that im sure they could easily deal with if they put forth that same effort, just saying is all.

I work at a restaurant/bar, so I know what you're talking about. I always root for the crowd favorite cause that brings the most tips.

People can always put effort, but if they have the intelligence of a bag of grapes then its pretty much pointless.

actually no thats it lol, don't get me wrong, i love to PLAY the sports, just not to watch, to me this is the equivalent of doing the WII sports, or owning a 3DTV.
if you really want to play a sport, go to the park, if you want to watch the most amazing 3D shit EVER, go stare at anything in the real world.

/rant

that aside i watch the super bowl for the ads, could give two shits who wins or loses, i aint gonne stop eating cus some overpaid asshole wasn't able to run 10 yards to save his career.
So if I want to watch an action 3D movie I should just stare at a bird outside? Or if I want to watch 3D porn I should just stare at a rock? Sure, that would surely get me off

You act like playing professional American football is so easy... I didn't see you on the tv when the game was on. Overpaid? Depends on the entertainer, but most are.

there's 3D porn? how come no one told me about this... i retract my previous statement.

Football is pretty easy compared to what i used to do, but then again i never go praised, or none of us ended up on TV for risking our lives in some stupid scenario that you only see in the movies... under paid and overworked, that's the life of a Marine. I was just speaking from my point of view, they have been called national heroes, and are praised up and down while i have seen one of my friends bleeding and had to carry another one's body back to safety but you never hear about that on TV, fuck running 10 yards, and scoring a touchdown for thousands of dollars i would rather carry a live grenade and toss it through a window to save some lives. and yes i have played football, i played for my battalion, we took the west coast title and even got a chance to play with some of the Pro's that support the USO. But yea you're right we were nothing against someone who does this day in and day out, as a trade off tho, they came with us and did a day's work at what we did and only the running back was able to keep up. Coincidentally one of them ended up leaving the NFL and joined the Corps, now that's a man. In my eyes and those that have served know that Hero's only come home in one way, on a wooden box.

Glorifying the death of military personnel by attaching a "hero" tag to them is ridiculous. I'm not trying to play down what the military does to keep our country safe, but being a hero is about what you do while you are alive and not about how you died.

I agree, what military personnel do is inherently more "hero" worthy than what professional football players do. However, to infer that anyone that isn't part of a military organization shouldn't be a hero is a bit much.

The hero thing is something we agreed upon on my unit since we all felt that we were doing nothing special it was just our job. Plus its the code for KIA in special ops... Since boner of that ever happened.
I'm not saying that if someone ain't in the military they ain't heroes, of course there's cops (the ones that do their job) emt/paramedic/nurses... But a football player? In that case lets give tiger woods a platinum record, cus that'd how much Sense it makes to me lol

Kama-Sutra for the 3D porn.

Marines are not the only ones that should be called heroes, how about a local man saving a drowning baby or a 5 year old boy calling the cops after witnessing a fatal collision. They may not be as extreme as going to war but their level of heroism is still considered. Heck even rapper T.I was called a hero with the suicide guy incident.

There are those who see members of the armed forces heroes regardless of how they come home. I hope you and the ones you refer to see it that way. There may be some batch apples in the batch but you shouldn't group us/me with them. I've worked at the Defense Contract Management Agency of Boston, I'm sure you know what that entails. I can't comment on the money aspect but I do know that most people I know that join don't put salary as their primary factor.
