ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

Getting a Car running after two years

So I picked up another 1992 accord that has been sitting for about a year and a half or two years. I looked at the oil, its dark and nasty, going to drain and flush. Coolant seems fine, just needs a top off. But I do not know about the gas. Does it need to be replaced or can I just power through it? Also is there anything else I should check before trying to fire it up for the first time?
Does anyone else have a monthly budget of 10mm sockets or is it just me?

If it were me I'd replace EVERY fluid. The gas will be bad, the oil is bad as you describe it, the coolant while it may look fine could likely have corrosion in your coolant system. I'd flush that and re-fill. Brake and clutch fluid is hydroscopic meaning it absorbs water from the air or anything present in the system. These are all the fluids that will protect either the vehicle or yourself.

I would absolutely drain what fuel you have in the tank before trying to run it. the fuel is most definitely bad. At the same time try and flush what may be left in the lines as well. Take in consideration your injectors may be gummed up as well.
So do NOT power through it, take the extra time to properly clean your fuel system.
As a precaution, I'd flush the coolant as well. Just because it "Looks" good and may only need to be topped off I'd suggest doing a coolant flush as well.

Ethanol gasoline has a shelf life of about 2 years. Back in the day when gas had lead, it had a MUCH longer shelf life. Drain and replace all fluids, along with high wear ignition components. So - plugs, wires, cap & rotor. Do multiple oil changes, and a valve adjustment along with a valve cover gasket and rocker o-rings.

Coolant that isn't a newer long life type should be changed every two years. Long life coolant should be changed every five years. Get the newer style coolant from Honda when you refill.

Another thing to look into is the timing belt/water pump. All neglected basic maintenance items is what I'm getting at here..

Thank you for everything. Got everything i need. Already drained the coolant, not very good. Thanks for the tip. Im in the middle of taking apart the head and so far all the oil i see is nasty.
