For me personally, this is an extremely tough decision. I'll actually wait to decide.

      4 is a safe choice
5 is a safe choice, with added character
I6 is too long, so that's a no for me
V6 is safe, with lots of power potential
V8 tight squeeze, but could work if it's compact a la LSx
V10...God yes, straight piped S85...too large to fit
      V12...see straight 6
Rotary...not efficient enough, but definitely unique.
All electric... Nah, batteries aren't good enough for an "Ultimate" build
Hybrid...Yes, please and thank you. You can do a lot of interesting things with even a 48v system.

So my choice would be something along the lines of hybrid 4, 5 or V6. V6 diesel hybrid would also be cool... I'll wait on this to see what options there are for the rest of the car.

        Moderators.

Can one of you have the poll changed to close on 02-28-2019? I put that in the date, but it didn't register. Also, can you add diesel to the poll and a boxer engine?

        Thanks.

I need some time to brainstorm.

The options are endless. The thing to consider is when Honda designed this chassis, it was never designed to withstand in excess of 300 ft*lbs of torque going through the entire unibody. Some structural engineering / reinforcment will be required for high torque output motors requiring a different drive train. If it stays FF, then less work would be required. If it switches to FR, or MR, or RR, yeah!!!

          At this moment, I'm thinking:

          2018 Audi TT RS - 2.5 liter inline 5 cylinder : 2.5 R5 TSFI
          2004 Ferrari 360 Modena - 3.6 liter V8 : Tipo F131
          1997+ Acura NSX - 3.2 liter V6
          2007 Chevy Silverado - 5.3 liter V8 : L33
          2009 Honda S2000 - 2.0 liter inline 4 : F20C1

          and, maybe, just maybe,

          2005 Honda RA005E or a 2009 Honda RA806E.

Ya, let's be reasonable here. You can put a V12 in a cb7 but you'll cut up so much of the car it won't be a cb7 anymore. I hate it when someone says they put a V8 in a XXXX car, but they had to cut a huge hole in the firewall, modify the front lower subframe, the mounts, make room for a drive shaft, etc. In the end from a distance the car may look original but pop the hood or look inside and it's just a shell. Some take it to nascar level and just have a shell with steel tubing.

I think you should keep the car/frame intact as much as possible.

The CB7 is very close in proportion to the Galant VR4. An AWD CB7 would most definitely be possible using DSM parts (even moreso with an AWD Galant donor.)

Theoretically, yeah, anything at all could be done with enough welding and fabrication. Ra99 makes a good point regarding mods that take all the CB7 out of the CB7!

Boxer would be interesting as well. Again, the 1st gen Legacy was another CB7 competitor bearing similar proportions. I wonder if a boxer could result in a lower center of gravity and more even weight distribution... though we’d probably need to make some heavy mods to accommodate the transmission.

Awd would be nice. I'm assuming these engines have to be somewhat obtainable?

V6 Diesel is out. I don't think the chassis could take the torque. Everything has to be beefed up and braced and would add lots of complexity and weight. Plus, revving out a diesel is an oxymoron and would make it less Honda-y.

The k series is a proven and solid platform, but a bit played out. Take a page out of Volvo's book and twin-charge it for a nice, flat power curve from idle to 9-10k. Add awd. Boring, not unique, very possible and realistic.

A transverse layout makes it a bit easier. The boxer is compact, but if we use the Subaru drivetrain layout, it would push the engine well in front of axle just to get that front diff to line up with the hubs.

V8...Cadillac Northstar style. Or Taurus SHO

Agree whole-heartedly. Even a V6 is extremely tempting, but I voted 4-cylinder with the H22 specifically in mind. Keep the spirit of the chassis, and this forum.

I'm liking the idea of the vigor 5 cylinder. Keep it all Honda!
