ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Replacing struts

Im having a hard time removing the lower bracket on the strut off to get it off the car. Its been on there for awhile and its not budging. I was wondering if anyone had any tips to maneuver it off.

Front struts, I assume? The fork bracket?
Undo the bolt in the back, and tap it off with a hammer.

Spray some PB Blaster on there to loosen the rust. The fork is just slipped over the bottom of the strut, so it will come off... but years of rust have likely stuck it on there pretty good. You could also pry it apart a bit where the bolt was pinching it together. That could loosen it as well.

Exactly. You don't fool around with suspension. Always use proper parts, quality parts, and replace anything worn.

While we're on that subject, take a look at your ball joint boots. If any of them are torn, replace the joint ASAP. A ball joint failure will most certainly make you crash, and a torn boot means dirt has gotten into the joint... and will cause it to fail. Whenever I do suspension or brake work, I ALWAYS check my ball joints.

The strut has a little indention for bolt clearance. Be sure you REMOVE the clamp bolt entirely on the back of the strut. Then give it a few love taps and it will fall right off.

I learned the hard way to fully remove this bolt, not just get it loose.

If you don't remove it it will still hold into the indention on the strut and give you a few headaches, not to mention you run the risk of damaging things.

I use a pickle bar, and it worked beautiful! Maybe you can try that.

Yeah, a pickle fork or pry bar can come in handy in popping the axle out. Just don't ever use a pickle fork on a ball joint, unless you plan on trashing that ball joint! (I know that's not what we're talking about, but since the tool came up, it could stand a mention!)

If it's REALLY stubborn (like the rear struts on a Civic) you might even need a torch. But, generally, hitting things works purdy gud. If it's really, really, really stubborn, or just a masochist, you might have to drill it/cut it out and replace it. Hell, you might torque it too hard and break the head off of it.

PS: Try turning it the other way .
