    Top Ten Most Wanted Spares

    Sup ya'll,

I'm trying to get a prioritized list together of the most likely to fail parts so I can have spares at the ready to minimize downtime. Since I'm fairly new to the Accord game I'm wondering what you all think are the most common things to break on these cars?

I'm thinking ignition parts, namely the distributor, are pretty high up there with maybe brake rotors and hub bearings.

The starter, really? I'd heard from the PO of my car that his went over 280k miles before his died.

I've addressed my spark plug tube seals thankfully. I'll have to look for a main relay.

If you have a sedan with power windows, driver's side window regulators and the rubber track are often problematic as are HVAC knobs.

If your car is a manual transmission, I would have a couple of the rubber stoppers for the clutch safety switch sitting in the glove box. A problem here can be one of the most confusing no-start situations.

The knobs for the climate control. The peg thing! For the rear glove boxes on coupes - makes it look crooked.

I noticed when adjusting my temperature they do seem real stiff. Is there something I need to lube?

I had the one on the clutch pedal fail, but the car still started?? There is also one for the brake light switch (if this one fails, your brake lights stay on - kill the battery). I use the plastic clips for the front fender liners. They hold up better and I have a LOT of them.

Things like brake rotors and bearings typically give you enough notice to plan for replacement. I think I've only had to replace one starter in 22 years and 11 Accords (ok, so some I just parted out).

If you're talking about parts to take on a road trip so as not to get stranded:

                      Ignition control module
                      Main relay
                      full size spare tire
head light bulb (at least low beam)
hoses (or some very good hose repair tape)
at least a quart of oil, AT fluid
                      Engine coolant, brake fluid
Alternator and PS belt (keep an old set when you install a new set)
Extra key in your wallet (or someplace else on your person)

Coveralls, gloves, tools, flashlight, rags, hand cleaner

When mine gave out this last time when converting from auto to manual and it broke apart, I just stuck a bolt and nut in there. Never going to have to replace it again.
