Electronics dim/low power unless driving harder

Tonight my 1993 didnt start up on the first try and needed some gas to start. The windows went down extremely slow and when I turned on the lights the idle dropped and the entire dash died except for a dim glow from the P R N D.., etc. I limped home and noticed the lights got brighter at about 2800 RPM. and Idle was extremely low at a stop but no indication on the dash...

Do you guys think this an IACV issue or should i keep looking as it seems more severe than the average IACV problem..

Sounds like your alternator. Check your voltage at idle it should be at least 14. Sounds like at idle your voltage is low but when you hit the gas the alt spins fast enough to charge. These problems usually show their face when it gets cold out.
......father in law has it back again. Time to shine

Checked voltages at the battery. Before starting it was 12.5 and after at idle 10.4 and dropping.

Then it is definitely your alternator no ifs ands or buts about it put in a new one or remanufactured 1 and it should be at least 13.5 alt at the battery

It can also be a very loose belt, but I think that alternator is on its way.
What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.

You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

Update: I found the alternator belt has marks on the top of both sides. It appears it is being worn on the lower cover.

Hah I am more concerned with taking the lower cover off. Anyway to do this without removing the crankbolt? I assume not, unless I cut it..
