refreshing my Dad's CB3
Hey all from the UK
I've been trying to ask my Dad to sell his beloved Accord of which he has owned this for over 20 odd years! He is smitten with the car and wont part with it. However it is showing its age, so i decided i will try and give the car a refresh and give him something special back as he has always been there for me. I will do this in stages when i can fit it in when I'm not working. here is a picture of my Dad's Accord 4th gen CB3 2.0i 16V SOHC F20A5 ![]() Here is the engine looks pretty awful and in a sorry state, i plan to give it some detail treatment so watch this space! ![]() thanks for looking and feel free to comment. |

Lists of things to do on the car to improve the appearance of his car
1. Change the Bonnet sound pad (you guys call it 'hood') 2. Change the horrible wheel trims to something OEM 3. Improve the look of the engine bay 4. Change the rear door molding which is damaged 5. Clean up the interior 6. find some fitted car mats 7. replace the heater vents as they are flopping down 8. repair the front wing (fender?) 9. renovate the exhaust heatshield 10. repair the rear wheel arches which are bubbling with rust 11. install a high level brake light 12. restore the door sashes to black as they have faded 13. look into the issue with a noise which seems to be the ALB motor 14. replace the interior door handles 15. refresh the interior door cars the cloth trim is falling off 16. Respray the wiper arms as the have faded to silver in areas. 17. look at restoring some of the clearcoat as it has faded in places 18. timing and balancer belts needs to be changed (need to find a genuine person to do this 19. refresh the rocker cover and possibly paint black? thats it for now phew! |

The chrome strip molding needed attention, some of the clips where lost so it was stuck down with some silicone as a temporary measure yuk!
you can see the molding has lifted each corner. ![]() newer molding with all the clips added. ![]() |

then trying to take off the heat-shield was a bit of a nightmare.
![]() i tried removing the 3 bolts still could not take it out, removed one of the fans from the radiator and there is a small heat-shield on the right next to the alternator then used the trick to disconnect the oxygen sensor then it finally came off, phew! ![]() next will be to use a rotary wire brush then spray with high temp paint |

Nice progress so far man. It's those little things that start to make a huge difference. Good on ya for doing this for your dad. I'm sure since he is so attached to it, that he will truly appreciate everything that you do!

Looking forward to seeing your results. It's great that there are people interested in this model being over 25 years old.

filler
![]() the 'finished' result i didnt bother wasting any more base cost as i knew it looked awful, trying to get a smooth finish on a wing was difficult. i wanted to use the wing from the donor car, however my Dad didnt want me to hassle with it :Frown: this was the result which to say the least i wasnt happy with! so i said i will be taking the wing off and do it properly!! he finally came round to my way of thinking ![]() |
