ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

F22A1 unusual valve train knock or noise

Hope yall doing well during this Covid9 pandemic, please take all precautions necessary.

Alright well jumping right onto subject, the new rebuilt head has been performing good, car runs well, but there is some valve train noise or lets say rapid and continous knock while accelrating specially under load (Nope dont worry, it is not rod knock lol). I have adjusted valves twice, noise still persists, gets louder when engine gets hot. I will attach a link to a video I uploaded.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated

Check for loose rotating parts outside the engine... distributor, accessories, crank pulley... rule out anything external.

Have you done a compression test to ensure everything is healthy?

Finally, make sure your spark plugs are all properly tightened. I had a plug that was backing out on my H22a, and it sounded like a bad knock.

yup, all of those check out just fine, I just reinstalled some new plugs and they are torqued down well, alternator snug, all the external accessories tight, and im pretty sure the noise is coming from the valve train.

compression is great, 175-190 across all cylinders.

The clattering noise is the valves/rockers; the knocking is something else. Did you install the cam holders, or a shop? Make sure the holders are torqued correctly (ideally they should have been torqued with the valve adjusters backed off) . Also check the cam pulley bolt; I left one loose once, but I don't remember if that was the noise it made - it wound up ruining the key slot in the cam and pulley if I remember correctly.

Actually the shop did, and I backed them out to torque them again, but that was when the valve lash was super off. Maybe I should just take everything out again and start from scratch. One thing I am sure of is the cam pulley bolt is well tightened, and the sound comes from cyl 3 cyl 4 area.

Reviving old thread, but before that, hope everybody is doing well, and staying safe.

Long story super short my cb7 had a cracked radiator so my head got warped (yes it overheated on me on the way to buy a new radiator haha, had to take a fat L for that one),so it was going to be the second time that head was going to see a machine shop so I decided instead to just buy another head than risking the head to be over shaved and causing issues.

Came across a 95 prelude S (f22a1) in the yard, pulled the head of it, internals are brown but the cam lobes look brand new, and the engine was in perfect timing so I took it home.

Slapped it in today, car runs great, but the same valve train knock is still present but a lot less than with my original head, everything is torqued down to spec.

Some have told me it could be a bit of piston slap, could that be a thing?
