ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

Electrical Issue Causing Car Not to Start

Started the car to go to work one VERY cold morning. Not even a click was heard. Nothing at all.

Jumped the car properly with another vehicle. Barely got it to start after 20 minutes of charging. Drove around for 15 minutes, came back, turned the car off, and tried to turn it back on. Nothing. Not even a click.

Went to have the battery tested at Autozone. They said it looked fine.

When we went outside to push the car around so that it would face outward so that I could do work on it, we had to have the key in the Ignition (II) position to bypass the steering wheel lock. We began pushing the vehicle in neutral. After about 1 minute, the accessory circuit came to life. Radio, cluster, clock.

What would cause this delay in power supply? My thought is a bad ground. I haven't checked anything but the battery capability yet.

I have looked at other posts, online CB7tuner.com Sticky'd resources, and wiring diagrams, but won't have a Multimeter until tomorrow after work. I just thought I'd put this out there now to see if everyone else is thinking like me that it sounds like a bad ground. When my car is out of commission like this, I don't do anything but think about it.

You are on the right track. Check the ground wire. Its mounted to the trans. Mine had a lot of copper wires broken at the end.

Ignition Switch is an interesting idea. However, when I was jumping the battery, the Ignition Switch seemed to be working fine.

There are more ground connections, aren't there? There's one to the left of the battery, one on the engine valve cover lid, and more right?

                Resolution

Well, folks, it was as simple as my battery posts having too much corrosion. I found out when I turned the key to ACC and left the cabin to go test some grounds and voltages. I went to test the battery voltage in such a way that the multimeter lead bridged the connection between the positive post and ring clamp (fucking crazy, right?).

So anyway, when I clean up/jelly the ring/post, can I just use normal petroleum jelly?

Yeah. That's another reason why you should go through this checklist before you do anything else (I asked first because I wanted to get the question out there in advance while I worked on my car):
