knock sensor question

Hey guys, quick question.

Would bad knock sensor throw a CEL? Also, i know that the car would run really badly and vtec would not engage without proper knock sensor, but how badly are we talking about? A limp mode or still drivable but cant rev higher than 6200??

could also mean it might be knocking, but dont think so, since the knock sensor only detects vibes if its gonna dentonate.

I got one from autozone, and its worked perfect!!!! and will effect your engine performance if its not working and stuff...

get one form autozone, get the honda odyssey, they are all the same! this one is the one i got more my H and worked well with no problems, and they are not expesive like 140 or 180 for one

nah, im just trying to find out whats wrong with the car. No cels, no vtec, not so much power and im not sure if the cable that goes into the ecu is all the way in the connector. (For the knock sensor) so im just wondering if my knock sensor wouldnt be connected if it threw a cel or affected my performance really badly

I spent 2 pages discussing a "no vtec" and "won't rev past 6200" issue a couple weeks ago before I realized what was happening... so let me get that out of the way first.

You are not doing this in neutral, right? If you rev an H22 in neutral, it will not go into vtec, and it will not rev past 6200. The car has to be moving.

hahaha brother, i was with you on that post. We both told him that! He also didnt reset his ecu before actually driving. So, no - im not doing this in neutral

Ok, cool. Just wanted to make sure! I forgot you were part of that one.

Your CEL is functional, right? That's another one that I had a fun time with... a guy kept insisting that he had no CEL on, and the reason for it was that his bulb had burned out!

Another option is to try another ECU. The ECU may be faulty.

yup, its functional.

Alright here it is:
No cel when i drive in normal speed, but when i try to hit vtec it fails and few sec later i get a CEL. I shut down the car and start again - no cels, drives fine. So i checked my knock sensor wiring and the plug wasnt connected all the way in the ECU connector. Now its cool

$140 - $160 is expensive for a little ass sensor! Awesome you found the prob!

If the engine is "knocking" , it will not throw a CEL...It will retard igntion and dump fuel..blah blah..unless of bad wiring or a bad sensor of course.

And yes, it is a fragile sensor.
