Blacking out headlights, decreased light output?

I think I might blackout my headlights this week. I was looking at my oem headlights and Obviously you donít black out the entire thing but the sides and top/bottom outer portions getting painted are also reflective. Have any of you actually noticed a decrease in light output?

Here's a thread I did wayyyyy back in 2004 (holy crap, 15 years!) on blacked out headlights on my 93. Pics are long gone but I hope it helps.

If your covering your reflective surfaces itís going to most likely affect the pattern most.
