ENG: Drilling/tapping prelude transmission to fit an accord

I know the information on this is in the swap FAQ, but I figured a DIY could help clear up any confusion.
    Tools:
    10 x 1.25mm tap
    11/32 drill bit for METAL
    WD-40

I'm not responsible for your mistakes.

    tools

here are the prelude studs in their original location. (empty holes are where you want them to be)

start by removing the studs, you can either clamp the bottom of the stud (NOT the threads) with vice grips, or you can get two of the nuts and tighten them against each other, then when you loosen the bottom nut it puts pressure on the top thus removing the stud.

now you want to enlarge the holes you are going to tap, you do this with an 11/32 drill bit made for METAL. Note: I put a little sticker on the drill bit that way I knew how deep to drill.

once both holes are enlarged it is time to tap them. I myself have never had any experience with tapping so I figuered a good time to learn would be with a m2b4 tranny. I found the tapping process to be VERY easy. If you take your time and don't rush anything you will be fine. You want the tap to be as true and and straight as possible that way you don't end up with crooked studs. I also used a small open ended wrench on the tap for more room. When tapping back the tap out about every 2-3 turns to remove any shavings, using WD-40 on this step definitely helps...

once both holes are tapped screw the studs in, the prelude tranny is now ready for an accord.

    all done.

Just curious. You bought an M2B4 for your F22? or are you running an H?
Nice write up too, the pics really bring things into perspective.

Very nice write-up. Funny how just the other day I was wondering about this. It's a step that is often overlooked but critical.

            ...adjust accordingly

this is also the process for 5th gen trannys....

              i used oil to lube....

depth was another question i had when i did it....

as fas as the thread pitch, u can use any, as long as u have the proper bolts.........

              very nice man...

make sure u do this as straight as possible..
              welcome to the DOHC-side..muuuahahahahahah

nice writeup. i usually dip the tap in oil before using it, makes it cut much easier... and if you at least line it up somewhat straight, itll straighten itself as you start to twist it into place (as long as the hole was DRILLED straight), since its only cutting small threads into an existing hole, it cant make the hole go crooked. drill bit, tap, and tap wrench should total around $30 from sears...

take one of the old studs out, and measure how long the bottom threaded section is. add a few millimeters since if you look at your tap, youll notice part of the tip isnt threaded. youll have to drill and tap a little deeper to make sure you have enough threads to accept the whole length of the stud.

i personally wouldnt recommend using wd40 to tap with i would be more of a air tool oil or an actual tapping oil like tap magic or use maverl magic miracle oil but very nice write up
