just visually inspect it for damage and wear. If the rubber is deteriorated and the spring doesn't feel like it has adequate tension, I'd just replace it, they're under 10 bucks at the auto store.

if it is leaking coolant when the car is at an angle, its done for

like losiracer said, go get a new one and be done with it

If the engine overheats on a steep mountainous road, the pressure in the coolant system will build up and the cap will pop to relieve the pressure. That's what its there for. It could just be a sign that the engine is getting too hot when you go up the mountain.

The problem is that the engine is not getting HOT !! At all!! But it leaks when going up not down nor highway nor city...arrgg sometimes ..I wanna just tear the engine apart !!

Just replace the cap. As stated above, they're under $10. Where could you go wrong?

I would change the cap and really go hard checking for leaks.

I have no problem replacing the cap, what I fear though if I put a new cap that will hold pressure, in case there was a leak from somewhere, it will end up bursting from it instead from the cap and I'll be forced to replace more than just a cap

does my reasoning sound logical ?

yes it does but rather do it now than be stranded somewhere

Or you could get a new radiator that comes with a new cap, if you think your radiator is about to go.

I replaced mine when I saw coolant starting to seep through the seams, and also because the stupid top filler was made out of plastic and it literally crumbled when I was installing a new upper hose, rendering the entire radiator useless.

I paid, I believe 80 for a new radiator from O'reilly auto parts with a lifetime warranty. Its survived 3 yrs in AZ summers already, even though its a single core vs. the OEM dual core....I guess they're more efficient.

Never hurts to do a thermostat if you go that far. Get a Honda one though, they're only 21 dollars at the dealer and come with the gasket. Parts store ones are 12-14 dollars and don't include a gasket, not to mention the gasket they supply is made out of crap rubber and doesn't seal right half the time.

Check if the rubber under neath near the spring is deteriorated. If it has then either fabricate another or just buy another cap.

Just check the leak is not due to the plastic radiator top having small hairline cracks causing it to leak.

Check it is not coming from the little over flow hose and junction also.

Worse come to worse you would have replaced the cap unnecessarily, it is not that expensive anyway and better still at least you have a spare cap for the future, this will not be your last cb7 any way right?
