    Four Projects

These have been sitting under my porch for years. May try my hand at restoring them.

Wooooow! I'm pretty sure I had that exact yellow Tonka set as a child in the early '90s. I remember those handles on the excavator... and that rusty metal arm. I can't imagine that being a legal child's toy anymore with how today's parents are, haha. I loved those things. When I was real little, I'd call construction trucks "meep meeps" because of the reverse beep.

wow.... that first pic. The escalator. I know where one of these are. I go for long mountain bike rides in the woods. There's a boy scouts club way back in the middle of no-where and only 1 toy sitting under this hut. Looks to be the same shape...

Ha! "Real little", when I was real little (2x you), you just had to listen for the engine noise!

My wife picked these up over the years at garage sales for our kids to play with (youngest now 21). The sandbox is long gone and these have been stored under the porch (I dug about 12 cubic yards of dirt out years ago to create a storage area for outdoor stuff and rain water collection). I was rearranging the area the other day and moved these to the garage to prevent further deterioration. There was a bird's nest in the bed of the Buddy L (red) truck. Triggered me to watch a restoration video. Looks like I might even be able to get replacement decals. I wonder if my powder coater can get Tonka yellow? The Tonka dump truck is probably the simplest to start with.

I do have most of the Matchbox and Hot Wheels cars (well loved), Lincoln Logs, and Lego's that my brother and I shared as kids.

I had the yellow Tonka truck as well.

I was probably 3 or 4 and my only memory of it is sitting in the back of it and pushing it around that way.

Very cool fleetwood! I haven't seen any of these in a very long time. I had forgotten about them. I think the crane is my favorite

Remove two axle caps, drill out four rivets, unbend six tabs. So far, I haven't found replacement decals. The chassis has wrinkle paint on it; I may mask the decal, clean it as best I can and refresh the paint. I'll see if my powdercoater has Tonka yellow. I'll try my headlight cleaning kit on the cab window.

Found a place with replacement stickers, a little more color than the originals, but the correct size. Good thing, when I tried to clean the chassis, the sticker started coming off and I realized one sticker was missing already. Pricey though, both sets will total about $20.

Put this one back together with small bolts and nuts for now; I'm trying to find relatively inexpensive tools to redo the rivets. I couldn't find a new windshield, so I did the best I could with my headlight restoration kit. Found new stickers; should be here shortly. Also considering a white tire pen to redo the letters on the tires.

From the powder coater; it may be a little lighter than official Tonka yellow, but close enough (and better than "patina") and he had a textured black that looks just like the original finish:

                      Looks great!

My neighbors were throwing out a toy truck. Couldn’t tell if it was tonka. I seriously considered grabbing it after this thread!

Stickers arrived today. The ones on the chassis didn't stick very well, I guess because of the texture.

                            That turned out well.

Paul where did you get the rivet things that go on the end of the rods to hold the wheels on?

I have a older Tonka truck and one of these has fallen off. I tried to make it tighter but it still just works off when the kids play with it. I just need a new one to keep the front axle together.

They are called axle caps. Found some at my local Ace Hardware and some at Lowe's (hardware section where they have nuts, bolts, screws, etc. They are in one of the drawers for specialty parts). 1/4 inch on this truck.
