ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Sun spots / 20yr old vinyl

Any suggestions on restoring sunspots? i think the ones on my car are a bit too much to restore without re-painting. what do you think?

And also, i am wanting to take off the vinyl stripe put on by the factory. I did about 6 inches with a razor blade soapy water and just took my time.. any other methods used? and what could i do to help with the paint fade?

The roof is your clear coat is damaged. There's no fixing it, you might be able to buff it to make it less noticeable, and under your stripes in the non faded color of your car. It will always be there

For the peeling clear coat, couldn't you just strip all the existing clear coat, claybar it, go over it with a nice random orbital polisher with the proper compound(s), and respray the clear?

i could do that, but if i was gonna go through that much trouble, i would just re-spray the whole car.

If the previous owners did what I recommended sans stripping the clearcoat, and waxed/washed the car frequently, your clear wouldn't be peeling. A few cans of clear coat, and a day of some sweat equity, is a lot cheaper then respraying the whole car.

As for your pinstripes, you can see where the paint is sun bleached, once again some good compound, wax and an orbital could do wonders, after of course claybarring off all surface contaminates left over from the vinyl.

Use a heat gun or a hair dryer on that vinyl
And some alcohol or your favourite 'goo remover' for the adhesive.

I may eventually re-spray the whole car to bring back the original green. not this sun dyed green.

^^ Hows that dude gonna open his doors , hood, gas lid and boot ? Seems if he has skipped some info on the plastic dip crap. IMO, a good waste of time and money.

another option would be to hit up a paint supply store and have them make you a few cans of spraypaint with your paint color code. its cheaper than getting the roof re-sprayed (tho it shouldnt cost more than 200 bucks to get it done at an auto body shop) and its not as half-assed as putting a giant sticker over the problem area.
