At least you won't have to worry about tailgaters.

Also, pretty sure your housing will melt this way. The plastic is soft and is NOT meant to stay illuminated for extended periods of time.

Ya ill let u kno how that works out, I had no probs yet. But if I don't want that parkin 3rd light on, I can easily undo the wire to the bulb and it won't come on.

Lots of new cars in canada have this 3rd brake light as part of the DRL system..BMW 323.....Nissan Maxima....My dads ford fusion has it too...so maybe in the states its illegal but in canada im sure it doesnt matter...and besides that he is being creative and if you dont like it thats ok, its a cool idea and he likes it and im sure many others will too....Good work brother

The 3rd brake light should never be illuminated unless its being used when you brake.

Well bump for info.

I wanna attempt 2 of the following.


1. Cut a piece of red tail light to the shape of the 3rd brake light and replace it with the red tail. Reason bein, it will actually match my tails to a T because I have no reflector in my tails. The nice reddish bulb color will shine thru. It will b nice. I can do this. I jus gotta take out the 3rd brake light which I havnt done b4, and do some cutting.


2. My cd5 marker lights, I would like them to come on when I hit the brake as well. I don't no where I can get a 3 piece socket that small. Any 1 kno?

The 3rd brake light should never be illuminated unless its being used when you brake.

Its pretty hard to get pictures of something like that, but I will try here in town and post them..just because i love your car so much

thanks friend. i went outside jus now and seen a Lincoln, and it was double parked.

it had rear bumper lights on and they were flashin with the 4 ways.

i would think this would be illegal as the 3rd brake light is to help distinguish between braking and just running lights. it would confuse me and likely piss me off if i was behind you

Just called my uncle, who's a cop here, about your DIY.


He said that if the 3rd brake light is lit up, even dimly, without you applying your brakes, it's illegal. Obviously he's unsure of the law where you live, but he assumes it'd be the same.
