ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

    Humming/whining noise from engine bay

Hey guys. I've searched the forum for an answer to this, but have yet to come up with anything conclusive. Not always, but about 25% of the time, when I start my car I get a strange humming/whining noise from the engine bay. When it happens, I pop the hood and try to pin point its location, but it usually quites down by the time I can figure out where its coming from. I've narrowed it down to the rear-center area of the engine bay. I have a 93 ex sedan with 94,001 miles on it. It was maintained by the book and the timing was done at 70k and the only known issue I have with it right now is that the ABS light is on. I'll try my best to get a video of the sound for you, but for now any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

sounds like it could be the sound of the intake manifold sucking in air.

usually when you start it a car. the rpms at idle is a lil higher than operating temp.

btw , that's some low miles for an accord

Thanks for the responses! I havent yet had a chance to get it on video yet, but I'm sitting here at work and I thought of this descriptive little gem. Imagine that you were out of winshield washer fluid and you tried to spray your your windshield...take that sound and raise the octave a few keys. That is the sound I'm hearing... if you get what I'm saying.
It has happened occasionally after it has warmed up, but for the most part it just happens when the car is initially started.

Right!!? I got it from a school teacher that used it to go back and forth to work one town over. She babied it like it was her first born.

It could be your ABS booster pressurizing. It normally does that at engine startup.

However, I don't have an ABS car so I can't tell you more, and my suggestion is just that, a suggestion.

Well, tonight I got fed up with my ABS light and decided to go in the trunk and tear that sucker out. No more ABS light and the mysterious noise seems to have left with the light. Hopefully that was the problem. Now the question is...Will not having ABS on a ABS equiped vehicle cause an issue when it comes to state inspection?? Ehh, I guess I'll find out tomorrow. Thanks for the help guys!

Is the ABS fuse in the trunk?

Sounds like the ABS Brake Booster pressurizing, or something related to it, was the problem then.

Having a nonfunctioning ABS system should not be a problem with the state inspection, since you have conventional braking left. Especially since there is no light on the dash to indicate a "problem" with the braking system to the inspector.

I wish I had ABS on my 92 DX
