ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

engine bay clean up seam sealer

Hello, I'm looking to clean up the engine bay a little bit more than I already have, I going to be welding the holes shut & cutting the studs off the firewall.
I wanna know what people have done to clean up the seam sealer in the strut tower area? pics of my engine bay below

No marathon gets easier later. ...

I've never done it, but if it were me I'd grind off all the sealer that's already in place and put a new layer to go on top in a tidier fashion. But then you'd have to repaint of course.

I've seen someone fill in the spotweld circles with bondo, then they just went in the gaps of the panels with minimal seam sealer real stealthy like. Looked awesome.

Were you planning on getting a better coolant overflow tank? I'm not saying that in a condescending way; that coolant gets super hot and those plastic bottles are way thinner than the factory tanks, making them deform faster with heat.

In the end, it's just metal. You sand off the sealer and either make your own "bead" from welds or seam sealer. But something has to go there. In the below pic I'm leaving the sealer another body shop left there as they made it look kind of nice. You could also sand it all flat like I've done in other spots.

Funny you ask this Q as there is my progress as of now...

One thing I have done when cleaning up old hot rods is to remove as much of the sealer as possible. Then use painters tape to lay out lines on either side of the seam and splatter on a new bead. Come back with a spreader, IE plastic card or putty knife, and smooth it out as much as you can. With enough patience you can almost make it disappear.

Good to know what it looks like. What's the next process you've done after that?
