93 Accord EX Coupe Speaker Sizes

    Hey guys,

I had searched around this forum but couldn't find a definitive answer, plus, I bought some speakers and tried installing myself and it still doesn't fit.
    --------------------

So I have a 93 Accord EX Coupe and I'm trying to replace the front speakers.

    Initially I bought these: https://www.amazon.com/Kenwood-KFC-1...wood+KFC-1665s

I bought it because it came comboed with a deck so I thought it was a good deal, but I didn't check the size beforehand. It's a 6.5-inch speaker.

After removing my stock speakers, I realized that the stock speakers were smaller. I measured it out, the diameter of the stock speakers from the longest ends were about 5.25-inches. The depth was a little less than 2-inches.
    --------------------

    Therefore, I figured I'd get these: https://www.amazon.com/Kenwood-KFC-1...ood+KFC-1395ps

I tried putting these in the stock pod, but again, it doesn't fit. The metal bracket that holds the speaker such as this: http://carspeakerspro.com/wp-content...66.jpeg?189db0, rubs against the stock plastic hub. It's weird but I swear it should fit by measurement...
    --------------------

So I've done a little bit of searching and found that some people were having luck with 4-inch speakers and/or removing the stock pod to fit 6.5's.

I removed the stock pod to try and fit the 6.5's. It fits in the hole fine, but I can't find a way to screw on the speakers.

Here's how it looks if I try fitting the 6.5's: http://imgur.com/a/vUJdf
    --------------------

So I'm wondering, what are your guys' suggestions?

Should I try and fit the 6.5's or go with 4"?

    Thanks!

The EX/SE came with 4" front speakers and 6x9s in the rear. The front speakers are held in with the pods you've discovered. The DX/LX cars had 6.5" front speakers and came installed in their own pods that are just circular without the chamber. Go to the junkyard and find a set of front pods from a DX/LX and you're set. Or you can buy a set of MDF spacer rings and put adhesive foam weatherstripping on the door side of them to quiet them down. Of course you'd still screw them into the factory location. Then you screw the speakers into those.
My Members' Ride Thread - It's a marathon build, not a sprint. But keep me honest on the update frequency!

      Hi Jarrett,

Is there a 6.5" spacer you could recommend? Also, should the spacer screw into where those yellow tabs are located in these pictures http://imgur.com/a/vUJdf?

I've got a set of OEM door 6.5 inch pods already in a box ready to ship (they were going to another member, but he doesn't need them anymore). Send me an address and a few bucks via PayPay and I'll put them in the mail tomorrow.

Thanks for the reminder! I have a gift certificate for Crutchfield to get some new speakers for my EX coupe.

          Hey fleetwood,

Thanks for the offer! I'm responding a little late, but I've already went to the junkyard to pick up a couple of the pods from the LX model. Thanks again though!

Here are a couple of pictures that shows how the 6.5 speaker pods look and how they sit in the door housing. http://imgur.com/a/qaVGA

Easy upgrade from the 4" to the 6.5"! Thanks everyone for helping.
