First rough trial fit of the quarter skin. Still need to trim for butt welds at the C pillar and rocker, make weld backing plates for those two welds, and clean up and apply rust preventative coating to the inside of the quarter panel and all surfaces of the wheel housing. I'm doing the rear corner a bit different than the right side, just a bit of overlap at the corner instead of several inches in from the corner I did on the right (the corner seam was rusted). This side looks like it will line up better with the door.

This is one of those days I wonder why I'm doing this. I found a 93 EX sedan auto with only 71,000 miles in Dayton and a 93 EX sedan 5 spd in Waynesville with only 92,000.

Yeah i know but you are keeping ruby alive and not letting her rot in the junkyard.

BTW the progress is amazing. It gives me so much motivation if/when (betsy) rots out.

Can't wait to her back on the road.

Made the cuts for the butt weld joints at the C pillar and rocker. Cut weld backer plates from the scrap peices; still need to strip them and tack them in place. Need a little more work at the rear corner to get it to line up a bit better and get the trunk gap a bit narrower.

Made A LOT of progress over the weekend. Did final trimming of skin and body, installed backer plates for butt welds at C pillar and rocker, then applied adhesive to the wheel well joint and where the quarter meets the trunk floor on Saturday. Let that dry overnight, then welded the door jamb, rocker along the bottom, rear window opening, and rear corner. Door and trunk gaps turned out very well. The trunk lid itself sits slightly high at the left rear corner, not sure why at the moment.

Clamped after applying adhesive .......................................... Welded window joint

Yesterday I went over all the area that will be hidden by the bumper with a wire brush, cleaned it with brake cleaner, applied rust conversion to a few spots with a little surface rust, then applied Eastwood Rust Encapsulator over the entire area. I still have to fashion one patch plate for the end of the rocker box section in the wheel well (I must have thrown the piece from the donor quarter out with some other scrap metal). (Update 1/12/2013 - oh well, while trying to consolidate all the parts from the wreck, I found the piece I thought I threw out.) I'll use the adhesive to install this piece.

Next I'll get it to the shop to complete the butt welds at the C pillar and rocker. Then figure out how much of the paint job I want to try to tackle.

                      Added July 21:

Had the butt joints welded. Now I need to strip off all the trim before paint.

Trying to get ready for paint. Unfortunately found a few more rusted areas up front. Pulled off the front bumper, grille, headlghts, windshield trim, door mouldings, door chrome, chrome above the windows, door handles (how does the handle housing bend down so that the handle touches it and rubs off the paint?).

Treated this side with rust conversion, probably fill with body adhesive.

May have the body shop deal with this.
