ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    dOh! Dumb alternator question

I had a bunch of stuff apart to remove the air conditioner compressor and to replace the alternator belt. I've got it all back together but... There is a wire hanging out of the wiring harness and I don't know where it goes. I think maybe it used to go to the air conditioner compressor. See attached photo.

That wire should go on to power outlet of your alternator.

But you have a terminal cover on the post which is somewhat confusing.

Probably went to your compressor clutch.

A wire to compressor has plug end, not ring terminal end, unless some one rigged it like that. And that plug is attached onto the condenser fan shroud, routed differently.

Any ways, make sure to have the negative terminal off of the battery while you are playing with alternator and its wires.

Just wondering: Did that rubber shroud fall off at any point and you had to put it back on? I'm only wondering because I'm pretty sure that loose wire should have that rubber cover on it and it should be connected where that other wire is...

            Correct, it should. My bad.
Also, the stock CB didn't come with techflexed (braided sleeving) wire that I'm aware of.

that's the original Alt wire with the original sheath. looks like he pulled the rubber boot off, though. Pull the boot off the front of the alternator and youll see the gold stud.

That was my guess, but it looks like another wire is going to that post... or it's just the angle of the picture? Either way, That wire definitely goes to the rubber boot.

Thanks all! I think I have it figured out. I won't see the car till saturday and I'll fix it then. If I'm right I'll make a better photo that shows how it is wired up. Less than one month until the next race! I should update my race thread...

Agree with everyone else. That wire shouldn't be there. As mentioned looks like someone replaced the ALT power wire with another and did not remove the old one. I bet the current ALT power wire does not go in the OEM wire loom.

I believe that you all are right. In lemons you need to have a kill switch that interrupts both the battery and alernator power so that it dies instantly when you flip the switch. The power is re-routed through the kill switch and it works so I'm leaving it as is. I just taped up the end so it can't short anything out.
