Whats wrong with Hondas D series engine!

    This is my EJ8

And this is what i did to it. the heat from the bearing failure caused the rod and part of the crank to turn black!

I have not even put 3000 miles on the car when i did that. I was full of fresh oil and i was driving on the freeway trying to haul ass and the car just didnt have the power it normally did. It turned out the coil was failing. I kept it opened up around 6k on a 7 k motor for about a mile and it caused this.
Was it me? should i not rev my honda? I use the full rpm range on all of my cars but dont abuse them.
It seemed like d series motors use to almost be given away, now all of the ones that came up for sale where expensive or had a rod knock or a hole in the block.
I have never known a f series to blow unless you run it out of oil. they are almost indestructible.
Whats up with all of the blown D series motors?! I am trying to figure out what caused mine to blow so i dont do it to my new motor any ideas?
this is my new motor. I am in the process of cleaning it up and waiting to get a clutch, head gasket and timing belt in. I am just worried about doing the same thing to my new motor! It was so hard to find a d16y8 i had to buy a y7 and swap my head onto it

My brother's '00 Civic EX developed rod knock out of the blue. Wasn't even gradual. Went from a slight knock to non-running in about 10 minutes. Its just one of the design flaws of this particular motor.

We almost just went B series for it, but ended up finding a low mileage D16Y8 for a good price, so just ended up sticking with that. Its been fine thus far.

So the d16y8 had rod bearing flaws from factory? I'm kind of curious, I've never owned a D or B besides the prelude B series, but I hear it's a kind of its own.

When I am hotroding it around the car is light and it's fun to drive but the engine has no clue what torque is. If I barely tap the gas on my cb7 I can pull away from all the other cars at a stop light.the civic will get passed by everyone unless I get in it and then I am looking like I am trying to hot rod around so mine as well get the full effect of the powder band at that point and open it up. Another thing is with the AC on in my cb7 it doesn't have an effect that I can really notice on acceleration. When I have the AC on in my Civic it dogs it down and I am always reaching up turning the AC off when I open it up just so the car can be quick otherwise the AC really slows it down
I don't know if it's just a poorly designed to motor that can't handle being opened up all the time or what happened. As far as I know there is nothing that should have caused my engine to fail like that. There was a little bit of silicone in the oil pickup from whatever idiot did a valve cover gasket previously but nothing should have been able to get through the pickup screen and clog anything. Plus it was just that number 4 cylinder, everything else was getting oiled

My best friend's wife's 97 EX did the same thing. One day fine, next day start the car up and knock knock, who's there? Rod. Rod Knock's here and your engine's blooey.

It has to be a defect in the motor or something. Its not normal for engines to eat rod bearings like these do
