So I stopped by the machine shop today and discussed a few more things. I also brought the stock flywheel with me. After talking with Jerry for a bit (machine shop owner), we figure we can only get about 5 pounds off the flywheel total. So I think instead I'm just going to pickup a 2nd ACT StreetLite Flywheel. I've been very happy with the one in the sedan for quite a few years now. I also prefer a solid steel flywheel compared to an aluminum with a a steel insert. The rocker arm pads are getting resurfaced. On some of them you could feel the wear lip with your fingertip. They are definitely in need of it. I also took a picture of the block's serial number so I can order new bearings from Honda tomorrow. The rods are now fitted for the wrist pins, an oiling hole was added to the top of the rods as well. When I stop by tomorrow I'll get a picture of the sleeves. They are now bored and honed to the pistons. The block ended up being decked 0.005" I was hoping for a little less but that was the best Mike could get. If I remember anything else I'll update this.

So not a whole lot in the way of update or progress lately. I did get a ACT StreetLite flywheel ordered. It should be here by the middle of next week. I've also gotten the main and rod bearings ordered from Honda, as well as the thrust washers. I still need to order the balancer shaft delete kit from Kaizen Speed, as well as a single row F20B/Euro R crank pulley. Those are the only 2 items that I need for the machine shop to finish up all their work on this engine. Once I've gotten the crank pulley they can finally balance the rotating assembly.
H22A1 Block Sleeved, Bored, Honed to Pistons (I was trying to get some of the cross hatching of the cylinder on the top but the pictures didn't turn out well for that. Fortunately you can see the cross hatching in the second cylinder in the picture.)

So this isn't exactly related directly to the car. But it does provide background noise/entertainment while working on the car. So for the last 2-3 months I've had a dashboard and a GIANT tv sitting on my work table for the garage. Well since I can't fit the car in there and everything has been reorganized, I figured there was no better time. So the table go cleaned off earlier in the week and on Friday I built this...
So now I get my table back and have a working tv for watching dvd movies and documentaries. It's really just for background noise while working. I noticed in the last garage I spent very little time watching any of it. But the noise was nice. Hopefully I can get the attic stuff done and everything else off the garage floor and back up there. Which would mean I can actually work on the car again.

Well the new flywheel showed up today. I found it on eBay being sold as new for $144 shipped. I was slightly skeptical but as it was basically half off, I figured I would chance it and go through a claim with PayPay if it was a knockoff. So it looks to be the real deal although I believe it was fitted to a crankshaft and balanced. Pictures below will tell the tale.

So there is absolutely no marking on the flywheel face. So if it had a pressure plate and clutch installed I can't tell. I have no issues with this as it stands. I'm happy to have gotten a genuine product at half of retail value. It's going to get balanced to this engine anyway so I'm not overly concerned about it.

So I started a new project for Lola. When I found the 2001 Acura TL wrecked almost 2 years ago in the junkyard. I grabbed almost everything I could at the time with the tools I had. I didn't manage to get the navigation system. I was lacking a few tools and due to time constraints didn't manage to get it. One thing I though was cool though was the auto dimming rear view mirror.
After comparing our stock rear view mirror holder and the TL one I knew this was going to be an interesting road. Here is what I've managed in an hour or two tinkering with the 2 mounting arms.

2001 Acura TL Rear View Mirror and Mount (This bracket had another piece clipped onto it. I've removed it as it would interfere with what I'm trying to accomplish. Also it was glued onto the windshield. I need to come up with a way to connect it to our mount.)

Also I still need to shape the Accord mount a bit more. This is my first pass at fitting them together. It will get better as I get some more time invested.)

So the machine shop called yesterday. I need an entire new set of valve springs for this damn H22A1. This thing is slowly costing me a fortune to get rebuilt. I was hoping to be able to reuse more of the OEM parts. Oh well it's all just extra insurance, this damn thing better be reliable for at least 200k miles. So time to start hunting for new valve springs.

So a few updates. Yesterday I ordered a set up SuperTech valve springs for the H22A1. Also I spent many hours plugging away on this Acura TL rear view mirror conversion. I've made some great progress on it though.

So a small punch list for this project still.
- Cut grooves for wires for the mirror
- Shape plastic covers a bit more
- Get better alignment on the brackets when fully tightened (They always shift just a touch.)
- Paint both brackets flat black
- Order plastic cover from Acura for the TL bracket. (I broke one of the 3 clips on mine getting it out of the TL. Not having a clue how to get it off in the junkyard.)Last edited by Rilas; 02-04-2016, 11:14 AM.
