ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Car is making odd noises...dont know where to start

recently my car has been making 2 odd noises

    1. when i turn my steering wheel, it makes a loud whining noise! don't know if its the p/s pump or belt (yes, there is a sufficient amount of fluid in reservoir)

    2. again, when i turn my wheel i hear a clunking/popping noise. not 100% where its coming from but it seems to be from my left side.

Any input would be much appreciated! thanks

    1) your power steering motor needs to be cleaned out,try flushing out the old fluids and refill with fresh p/s fluid.

2)if you are making a full right turn then you would hear the clunking coming from your left cv joint.if you make a full left turn then you would hear the clunking coming from your right cv joint..

pwr steering- i cant advise you on this dont use them sorry.
CV AXLES- DIY tools you will need
36mm 1/2dr socket & the largest breaker bar you can find/Impact
      Jack & stands
Ball joint tool- i prefer the fork like ones for the lower ball joint btw this is the only one you need to remove to take off your cv.
14mm socket/wrench for pinch bolt behind ur strut
17mm socket/wrench for the long bolt @ the bottom of your strut "FORK" strut (shock & spring) removal not neccesary for cv axle removal, the only parts that need to be taken off are you wheel, lower ball joint, and the strut FORK, gently use a large flat head screwdriver to pry cv out of intermediate shaft(left side)trans(right side)

My personal tips: add a smug of grease everywhere there is metal to metal contact(hub spline, ball joint sleeve, strut fork bolt) makes ur life easier next time.

When my PS reservoir is below the fill line, my pump starts whining, and after I fill it up, it stops. Something to try before a full clean.

The clicking is most likely from your CV joint going out. Replace that axle.

Agreed on #2 being the axle. Mine does the same thing, I've just been too busy with other projects to finish it.

If you have a bad CV axle I suggest putting other projects off and fixing the routine maintenance first. You don't want to take a chance and have the joint separate.
