The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.


For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

    How much power can a stock F20A engine and H4A (MPXA) transmission reliably handle?

    Just curious, because in the far future, I might open up the inlet and exhaust line and maybe replace the ECU with a programmable one. The plan is to install an open filter as low as possible to get cooler air, a cheap exhaust manifold and replace the exhaust.

    So the question is, what's to gain, and will the engine and transmission still be reliable afterwards?

    I'm not too familiar with the F20A, but I'm sure it can handle standard bolt-ons with no problem. Same goes for the transmission.

    As far as how much gain you'll see? A few horses typically. You may notice a bit more pep.

      I wouldn't start worrying about the engine's strength until about 300hp, maybe a little more. I'm sort of talking out of my ass, because I don't personally know their limits, but based on how many people have done modest turbo kits on stock-internal F22s throughout the years and had good enough luck with them holding up, you should be fine around there.

      The automatic transmission, on the other hand, is a different story. They're known to be weak. I myself had two burn through clutch packs. One was an Accord trans that went out while the F22A was still in, and the second was a Prelude MP1A auto that was at first mated to the F22A and then also to the H22 when I did that swap; it was replaced with another Accord trans that then performed fine until I got rid of the car. But then both of the ones that got to slipping were high mileage and I was a bit rough on them (don't manually shift an auto that isn't designed for it ).

      I can't imagine any engine/transmission in a production vehicle giving out because of simple intake and exhaust bolt-ons. From the seat of your pants, you aren't likely to feel much of a difference yourself without an accompanying ECU tune.

        This is pretty much exactly what I was thinking. I'm worried more about the transmission than I am about the engine. I just figured I'd ask about the engine too, while I'm at it.

        Anyway, thanks for your input!
