ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

Moaning hum noise coming from engine bay. w/video

My car has been making this noise since I got it.. My guess is that it's coming from underneath the timing cover or the power steering pump but I'm not sure. It doesn't increase in pitch with rpms, just speeds up the rate of the whine.

Anyone know what this is? Sorry about the crappy video but you can hear what I'm talking about. Rpm increased near end of vid.

I just got the T-belt replaced, did it before and still does it.. could be a timing pulley or something if it is something to do with the T-belt. I dont really trust the work of the garage i got it done at and my car has been smelling like oil or like its running rich since i got it done and i need to figure out why

if it is power steering the noise will change frequencey when you turn the wheel side to side as this loads the pump, however sounds more like alternator bearing.
an old school trick i learned was to take a long screw driver 18" or so and carefuly rest the tip of the screwdriver on the component you suspect is makeing noise then put the handle to your ear.
there is actually a stethoscope for mechanics similar to what doctors use but the screw driver works. now this is a technique for pros so dont be a dumbass and stick the screw driver in the moving belts. thats my disclamer.

another option is to loosen the accesory belts one at a time thus by process of elimination ruling out alternator, ac compressor, if all the belts are off and you still have a noise you will know it is your water pump or t-belt tensioner or balance shaft belt tensioner.

Look at where your belts go into the timing cover and look for rubbing. Mine made the exact same sound when I but my alt belt on a tooth crooked.

I guess a bearing of some sort. If the timing was off you'd have other problems.
