SUSP: Rear cross member swap / Rear sway bar install

    Tools

    Jack
    Jack stands
    Ratchet
    12 mm Socket
    14 mm Socket
    17 mm Socket
    12mm Open end wrench
    17mm Open end wrench

Step 1 ( jack and jack stands required )

Put the car on jack stands and remove wheels

    Step 2 ( 17mm wrench and socket required )

Remove this large bolt attaching both rear lower control arms to the rear knuckle. You will need to put a 17mm wrench on one side to hold the bolt as you back the nut off. Repeat for both sides

    Step 3 ( 17mm socket and wrench required )

Remove this bolt on both sides of the car, If possible remove the bolt on the other control arm next to it used for alignment. On this car it was seized so we left it on.

    Step 4 ( 17mm socket required )

Remove these 4 bolts and remove your cross member. You will need to maneuver it out in an odd way if you could not remove the alignment lower control arm

    Step 5

Compare the new cross member to the old one

Notice the additional bracket on the EX cross member. This cross member is also from a wagon and still has the wagon cast steel lower control arm installed.

Step 6 ( If secondary control arm was not removed )

Set the new cross member into place like i did

    Step 7

    Reinstall these 4 bolts ( 17mm socket required )

    Step 8 ( 17mm socket and wrench required )

    Install this control arm

    Step 9 ( 17mm socket and wrench required )

Reinstall this bolt, this can be tricky and be sure the nut always faces the rear end of the car

    Step 10 ( 12mm socket and wrench required )

Get your sway bar and remove this part from the bar itself. Makes the install alot easier

    Step 11 ( 12mm wrench required )

Mount the sway bar to the brackets. take note of the hook in the picture

    Step 12 ( 12mm socket required )

Mount the sway bar peice we removed in step 10 and install it like so. Take note of the half moon shaped peice. Do not tighten it untill step 13 is complete

    Step 13 ( 12mm socket and wrench required )

Mount the sway bar to the bracket

    Step 14 ( everything required )

Double check to make sure everything is tight. Lower your car back down and go for a test drive. Enjoy your stock upgraded cb7

        Do it

I reccomend a vigor or acura CL 16mm rear sway bar though

In this guide we used a stock accord sway bar

You should probably have the rear alignment checked after doing this.

Its not hard to do really, It only connects to the trailing arms via 1 bolt, so its not like you have to undo much of what you did to do this.

At the time yes. It was later swapped to rear discs though. Really the only thing related between the 2 is the long botl between the 2 lower control arms. Nothing else is related when swapping rear discs so its not like your going over work for a second time
