Is upgrading from a 25mm to 27mm front sway bar worth it?

I have a 92 EX with the stock 25mm sway bar with poly bushings and poly end link bushings. I just learned that 94-97 EX's came with a 27mm front bar.

I have the Suspension techniques rear bar installed and I plan on tracking this vehicle as my HDPE trainer. Would the 27mm front bar be a noticeable upgrade? Worth the trouble?

EDIT: Looks like these are around $50 shipped on eBay plus another $15 or so for new poly bushings. Is it worth $65?

Depends...you will understeer more with a larger front sway.

Yes but I also went from the stock rear sway bar to the ST bar, so I will have reduced the understeer by a lot.

I haven't tried it on the track yet with my current setup and 25mm front bar.

Understeering is a huge problem with these cars... any modification to reduce understeer should be considered.

However, I don't see a benefit of increasing the understeer by stiffening up the front end. It would make it not handle as well.

Track it first as is. You'd be the best judge whether or not you need a larger sway. I'd say save the $65 and put it toward a lightweight battery or something.

Remove the front sway bar completely. It works well, I've tested it(autocross).

I already have a group 25 battery (smaller than the stock one). My next upgrade would probably be a stage 1 cam regrind but I'm not sure if I'll ever get there.

Wouldn't removing the front bar increase body roll a lot?

For autocross, that's not necessarily a bad thing. For track racing, you're going to want that front bar. The decision to upgrade the front bar could also be affected by your front spring rate (as a stiffer bar will effectively increase that rate) and the overall weight of the vehicle. As cheap as they are, just run the car with your OEM bar first, and then the 27.2mm bar. Use urethane bushing for both. Then keep the one you like.

Keep the stock front bar and upgrade the rear to a 22mm progress bar. The car will rotate a lot more easily and understeer will be drastically reduced, if not negated. Stiffening the front will only increase understeer, in my experience. Obviously im reiterating what others have already said, just throwing in my two cents. Softer front bar and stiffer rear bar will make a supple yet responsive CB7.

                    Exactly my opinion as well^^

I put a ST front bar on and hated the way it made the car steer, back to stock in the front and a nice beefy ST one in the rear

Awesome, thanks everyone for their input.

I'm going to stick with the 25mm bar for now in the front and see how it behaves at the track. VIR next month!
